MJS: Catholic school to provide iPads for middle school students

A Catholic school in Fox Point will begin providing individual iPad mobile devices to middle school students next school year.

The School Board for Saint Eugene Catholic School unanimously approved the devices for students in sixth through eighth grades, for use both in and out of the classroom.

Teachers received the devices this month, and will attend a summer workshop to help them prepare to incorporate the iPads into the 2011–'12 curriculum. The program will enable teachers to provide more project-based learning and customize the learning to students with different needs, according to Principal Rebecca Jones.

"We are very excited about the opportunities it will provide students and teachers to conduct research, unleash their creativity, and organize their projects," Jones said in a press release.

The principal said students will be able to use tool apps to take notes, write stories and research papers, and create flashcards for studying by having instant access to the Internet.
