The worst job in Wisconsin?

Milwaukee Cathedral
For the first time in nearly a decade, Milwaukee's Catholic cathedral will have a new pastor and rector.

Father Jeff Haines of St. Frances Cabrini Parish in West Bend has been named to succeed Father Carl Last, who is retiring after 42 years as a priest, 11 of those at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 812 N. Jackson St.

Last had been a parish priest and nationally known liturgist when then-Archbishop Rembert Weakland tapped him to become associate pastor and vice rector of the cathedral beginning in 2000. He was named pastor and rector the following year, and oversaw the controversial, $10.5 million renovation of the cathedral that was completed in 2002.

Haines begins his new post June 21.
