Liberal Cliché Warning!
ROFL! Listen to him define "Tradition." If I had more time I would transcribe it all. The interviewer does a great job.
What is interesting is that Winona, MN has a well known "wimenpriests" movement which it would now apparently seem was influenced by the Christian Brothers' heterodoxy. Christian Brothers also run a publishing house out of the St. Mary's campus. When I was teaching Confirmation I would order the Catholic Youth Bibles for students. Don't. Do. It. The commentary is terrible. If I still have one around I'll post what the comments were on the Exodus. Basically they took out all real meaning and talked about how slavery is a bad thing, and why slavery is immoral. So basically they made the Bible as shallow as possible. Nothing about slavery to sin, Moses as a type of Christ, etc. Not that there is anything wrong with mentioning the morality of slavery, but the attitude of - if we dumb this down enough kids will finally get it - doesn't work.
DeThomasis also talks about his book titled (I kid you not) "Flying in the Face of Tradition."
He also writes for Huffington Post. Check out "The Subversion of Vatican II."
If the embed doesn't work you can watch the whole thing at FoxNews.

What a nub(noob)! I'm pleased to set the record straight that Br. Louis does not "head" St. Mary's , Br. William Mann is the president, and although St. Mary's has a long way to go, Br. William is on the right track and has made a number of improvements and has taken strides to make present an authentic Catholic identity (restoring a devotional area to the Blessed Mother, making much needed improvements to the St. Thomas More Chapel, etc.). Thank God for the seminary on campus and the mostly solid philosophy dept., otherwise my alma mater would have been lost years ago bc of this man (Br. Louis).
Brother Louis is listed as the Chancellor, is that correct? I see they give out an annual award in his honor:

I hope Br. Louis continues the reform
I went to SMU as a philosophy student. Pray for the conversion of these brothers and the other faculty there. Last year the university came very close to giving Sr. Elizabeth Johnson an honorary degree at my graduation. She has written books that are blatantly heterodox and just plain goofy. These mostly concern Christological, Trinitarian and Ecclesiological matters. How sad.
Please pray, the only things keeping SMU around is the very solid Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary (minor seminary), Philosophy Department, and the great Bishop John Quinn. Pray that there be conversion for all who are at SMU.
It's not too much to ask that Catholic schools are Catholic is it?
If she wants to be evil, Macalaster College is in St. Paul about an hour and a half away...
The problem is that educators, like the good Br., have not taught the faith faithfully. Because when the faith is taught faithfully, with no watering-down, sugar-coating, then grace accompanies the teaching, and it is effective.
The Church can never afford to become worldly in order to bring the worldly into it or keep them in. The worldly must have a change of heart and begin to live the teachings of Christ which are immutable.
Teaching the Catholic faith is often a one way ticket to suspension or dismissal.
"You sound like a Protestant." LOL! Takes a level-headed Protestant host to properly ID a warmed over 60s fella.
... Patrick, do you mean to post that comment on a different post?
Yep, the Catholic Youth Bible is horrible. I second the DONT. DO. IT! Your take is similar to mine when I read parts of it. I think I have one those that for some reason one my in-laws thought I wanted because it was being sold of 50 cents. That was 50 cents too much.
I wonder if the fact that this man has spent "40 years in Catholic education" at a school that doesn't teach the faith, might explain why it isn't "resonating with the young people"? Franciscan University of Steubenville, Benedictine College, and others are bursting at the seams with young people of whom the Faith resonates very strongly. Just a thought.
Back in the early-mid '90s they were pretty solid, I think . . . or maybe the solid students I met kept them on track. Two of them at least continue to be wonderful, faithful, Magisterium Catholics (my daughter and son-in-law) :-)
His clear insanity was nearly clouded out by the commentator. How many times can a person say 'You know' before it becomes legal to use force to stop them! Having said that, she did ask some pertinent questions, unlike the norm in these cases. It's a pity she did not have the wherewithal to follow them through.
