Young Americans support Roe vs. Wade, don't know what it is

If you're reading this post, you're probably aware that today is the 40th anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade decision, which legalized abortion. Just two-and-a-half months after the president won re-election on a campaign of little more than "Free abortion and birth control for all!" the prospects of seeing Roe vs. Wade overturned seem a little bit dim. Indeed, the Pew Research Center has a poll out showing that nearly two thirds of American adults do not want Roe overturned.

Then there's this little, delightful nugget: More than two thirds of 18-29 year olds want to see Roe remain the law of the land, but...
Among those younger than 30, just 44% know that the case was about abortion; 16% say it dealt with school desegregation, and 41% either say it dealt with another issue (the death penalty or the environment), or do not know.

I am a Christian, and indeed a Roman Catholic, so that I do not expect ‘history’ to be anything but a ‘long defeat’ — though it contains some samples or glimpses of final victory.

It would be so much better if you actually bought me a drink every time I clicked on it. I prefer an Irish stout. Bavarian dunkelweizen will suffice.
