Kiley Hackl honored by Assumption High School

Earlier this month, we kept you updated with prayer requests for Kiley Hackl, a Madison-area Catholic mother who died after suffering a blood clot on February 28. WAOW in Wausau has a moving story about how Kiley's alma mater, Assumption High School in Wisconsin Rapids, is honoring her memory.

Kiley played for the 1998 State Champion Assumption High School Royals. Her alma mater recently completed a run that culminated with another state title.
The team was determined to honor her, bringing her jersey to playoff games and keeping it on the bench.

"I'll never forget it. I went and got the jersey, knew it was 22, and went back on the bus and asked the girls if it would be ok...without hesitation they all said, coach, that would be great," Birkhauser said.

"When we would sub into the game we would run past the jersey and yes, it's just a game, basketball is just a game, but it gave us motivation to play for each other and play for our Assumption family," senior forward Hannah Skibba said.
Kiley's jersey will be raised next to the 2013 State Championship banner as a permanent tribute.
