The first written account to be published of the Guadalupe event was a theological exegesis hailing Mexico as the New Jerusalem and correlating Juan Diego with Moses at Mount Horeb and the Virgin with the mysterious Woman of the Apocalypse in chapter 12 of the Book of Revelation.wiki
I love the correlation. At the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe there is an icon of Juan Diego. Since in the East there is no existing iconography of Juan Diego, the Institute of St. Joseph used the icon of Moses as the base for this new holy image.
