Milwaukee-area choir heads to Vatican

Hartland— Grace Marie Urlakis was both nervous and excited Monday morning as she pulled her suitcase behind her outside St. Charles Parish.

The 18-year-old was about to travel on her first flight. And she's heading all the way to Rome, where she'll sing for multiple audiences, including one listener who is bound to stand out a bit.

That would be the pope.

"It doesn't seem quite real," said Urlakis. "I'm just blown away that I'm here."

Urlakis is an alto in the Milwaukee Mercy Choir, which performed Monday at morning Mass at the Catholic parish in Hartland before leaving on a bus trip to Chicago and then flights through Madrid to Rome. The choir is expected to arrive Tuesday afternoon in Italy.
