His time leading the faithful in the Region will be remembered fondly by Hying.continue at NWItimes
"I'll miss the warmth and friendship of the people. I've just met beautiful people here who have become friends in a short period of time," said Hying, who was installed as bishop of the Diocese of Gary on Jan. 6, 2015. "When I first came here, I worried about that because I never really lived away from my hometown, so I just wondered how that would go. But I felt completely at home here."
The fact he felt comfortable almost immediately was due to the "hospitality and kindness of the people," he said.
Therefore, brethren, stand fast; and hold the traditions which you have learned, whether by word, or by our epistle. 2 Thes 2:15

Journey of faith: Bishop Hying reflects on his time in Gary as he prepares for Madison

Its owner asked if he could park it there after our last bike ride together, last summer.
“We’ll bike again someday,” he said with a promising smile.
I know him as Don, a close friend who I met in early 2015 when his job got transferred to Northwest Indiana from Wisconsin, where he was born and raised.
You may know him as the Most Reverend Donald Hying, the Roman Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Gary. On Nov. 10, 2014, he got a call from Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, apostolic nuncio to the United States, asking if he wanted to think about replacing Bishop Dale Melczek.
Bp. Hying investigating Indiana Catholic HS; students waved signs with Donald Trump's face while chanting "Build that wall" during basketball game
School officials are investigating an incident involving northwest Indiana high school students who waved signs with Donald Trump's face while allegedly chanting "Build that wall" during a basketball game against a school with many Latino students.
The two Catholic high schools -- Bishop Noll Institute and Andrean High School -- played Friday night at Andrean in Merrillville, Ind.
Parents and fans from Bishop Noll in Hammond, Ind., which has a large Latino student population, said they were shocked by the behavior of Andrean students. On social media Saturday, Andrean fans insist it was not their intent to offend and that last night's USA theme is one they've used at other games.
Bishop Donald J. Hying, of the Catholic Diocese of Gary, said the incident is being taken very seriously. Officials from both schools, as well as diocesan representatives, met on Sunday to plan steps for moving forward.continue at ABC7
Hying said: "Any actions or words that can be perceived as racist or derogatory to others are antithetical to the Christian faith and will not be tolerated in any of our institutions. It was the furthest thing from anyone's mind that such actions would be happening at a gathering of two of our Catholic high schools. This is not what we teach our students.
Meanwhile, the WIAA abrogated students chanting "airball."

Photos from Bishop Donald Hying's Installation Mass
Anne did a nice post on Bishop Hying's installation Mass to the Diocese of Gary, IN.
Unlike his episcopal ordination day when the temperature in Milwaukee was 102 degrees, the day of his installation was bitter cold with wind chills well below zero. We found the comfort of riding on the warm bus to be very welcome. A bonus of the bus ride was the opportunity for all of the passengers to pray the rosary together for Bishop Hying and then to watch his most recent film, CRUX, by Ahava Productions. I highly encourage purchasing this magnificent film, to enjoy, and then to share with a friend. It's available as a download or on a dvd at the Ahava Productions website.read the whole post at Imprisoned in my Bones
