8th Annual Holy Hill 5K Run/Walk June 15, 2019

Hubertus man accused of stealing $100,000 from Holy Hill church pleads guilty
continue at Fox6WASHINGTON COUNTY — A Hubertus man accused of stealing money from the Holy Hill National Shrine of Mary Church in the Town of Erin in Washington County has reached a plea deal in the case against him.
Pierre Valodine, 76, on Wednesday, April 3 pleaded guilty to one count of theft of movable property — greater than $10,000. A second charge was dismissed but read into the court record. He will be sentenced on June 6.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, an investigation began after Valodine was suspected of stealing money from the church while he was sorting and counting money with other volunteers.
There are Catholics who don't live in Wisconsin and we should all feel sorry for them

Funnel clouds caught on camera near Holy Hill
MILWAUKEE -- A tornado warning was canceled for the southeast part of Washington County Wednesday evening, May 9, but not before FOX6 News viewers captured funnel clouds on camera. The National Weather Service will be conducting a storm survey across southern Washington County Thursday morning.

Wisconsin Way pilgrimage offers scenery, peace, prayer
continue at The Catholic SpiritWendy Zeuli of Our Lady of Grace in Edina last year came up with a new way to celebrate Mother’s Day — go on a pilgrimage with her daughter, Katie.
Wendy chose a newer pilgrimage called the Wisconsin Way, which begins 16 miles northeast of Green Bay in Champion, at a Marian shrine called Our Lady of Good Help, and winds its way south 130 miles through rural terrain to the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary, Help of Christians at Holy Hill near Milwaukee.
She had met the priest who created it, Father Andrew Kurz, when he was giving a presentation to American pilgrims who had walked the Camino de Santiago in Spain, which Wendy did in 2015.
“I loved walking the Camino de Santiago, so I just thought I need to do this here,” said Wendy, 59. “I just love the idea that there is a pilgrimage … so close to us in Wisconsin.”

All eyes will turn toward Holy Hill, a castle-like Catholic basilica and shrine looming on the horizon of the event’s final hole as if floating in the clouds. Built on the highest point in southeastern Wisconsin, the nearly century-old Holy Hill church in Hubertus has twin spires that are an aiming point for golfers, beckoning well-struck drives to safe passage on the home hole.
But then, this is golf, where broken commandments — cursing, lying on a scorecard, failing to honor the Sabbath — are as common as bogeys. Indeed, there is probably a deep connection between bogeys and broken commandments.
..."There are parallels between the experience on the golf course and what brings people to the shrine,” Father Michael said. “There is the whole struggle with pride and having to be humbled time and time again, and yet believing that you have the means to keep going.”
The friars noticed that the players at the 2011 Amateur tended to come to Mass before they played.
And they went to confession after their rounds.
What did they confess to?

Wisconsin bishops "to entrust the faithful of WI to Mary, Mother of Mercy" this weekend
Each diocese will read a public prayer of entrustment, which is a way of placing each of our dioceses and everyone within them under the special care and protection of the Blessed Mother. I will be celebrating Mass on Oct. 7 at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help in Champion. During the Mass, I will be leading the congregation gathered, spiritually representing all people within the diocese, in the prayer of entrustment published in The Compass. I invite each and every one of you to pray the prayer at home or in church.It's just awesome to be a Catholic in this state!
My brother bishops and I, under the leadership of Milwaukee Archbishop Jerome Listecki, have chosen Oct. 7 because this is also the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. This feast day has an incredible history. In 1571, Pope Pius V called on everyone in Europe to pray the rosary to ward off the terroristic advances of the Turkish Sultan, Selim II, who was ready to attack Venice and to conquer Rome and Vienna. Grossly outnumbered by the sultan with his fleet, the papal fleet was miraculously able to defeat the bloodthirsty aggressor and then a huge storm at sea completely annihilated the rest of the enemy fleet.

continue at MilCathHeraldFor centuries, Christian pilgrims have trod the Way of St. James, carrying their lives on their backs as they travel by foot along one of a dozen paths that bear the faithful through the corners of Europe to Santiago de Compostela, where tradition holds that the remains of St. James are buried.
This rigorous physical and spiritual undertaking is mimicked by Fr. Andrew Kurz’s “Wisconsin Way” pilgrimage, a 120-mile expedition from the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help in Champion, in the Green Bay Diocese to Holy Hill in Hubertus. Fr. Kurz, a priest of the Diocese of Green Bay, first completed the pilgrimage by himself in October 2013, and this past May he embarked on a second pilgrimage with a group of seminarians.
When Abbey Gagne heard about the Wisconsin Way, she was disappointed there wasn’t an option for girls. The 17-year-old confirmand from St. Peter Parish, Slinger, had just seen “The Way,” the 2011 film starring Martin Sheen, and was inspired by the tenacious devotion of the historical pilgrim.
“My mom and I listen to Relevant Radio, and we heard about Fr. Kurz and how he was planning a men’s pilgrimage,” she said. “And I thought, ‘I wish there was one for girls!’”

Bishop Ricken to lead pilgrimage to Wisconsin Marian shrines in October
continue at The CompassFor the second year in a row, Bishop David Ricken will lead a three-day “Wisconsin Shrine Pilgrimage” to approved Marian shrines. This year’s pilgrimage — featuring stops at the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary, Help of Christians at Holy Hill; the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, La Crosse; and the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help, Champion — will take place in October.
Pilgrims will depart from the Diocese of Green Bay campus, 1825 Riverside Dr., Green Bay, by motor coach at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 12, for Holy Hill in Hubertus. More than a half-million people from all over the world visit the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary each year.
Holy Hill was dedicated as a minor basilica by then Archbishop Timothy Dolan on Nov. 19, 2006. There are fewer than 60 minor basilicas in the United States.
Before Mass, celebrated at the basilica by Bishop Ricken, there will be time for praying the rosary and the sacrament of reconciliation. Following lunch, there will be a presentation about the shrine. Lunch will be served at Holy Hill and pilgrims will then have time to pray, walk the grounds and visit the gift shop prior to travel to La Crosse.

She's not alone, she said.
"Other people often tell me that they have the same emotion and wish they could spend more time there," she said of the simple shrine, which was dedicated in 2010 and is set in farm fields 17 miles northeast of Green Bay in rural Brown County.
"It's out in the country with a beautiful little church and the crypt where Our Blessed Lady appeared back in 1859. They say they'd like to just be there more to pray and walk."
Schwarzbauer, whose tours include a spiritual leader, said she is also fond of the setting for the Our Lady of Guadalupe shrine in the bluffs above La Crosse.
"It's more developed than Our Lady of Good Help, but it also has the same feeling," said Schwarzbauer, who has been leading shrine tours around the world for 24 years for her company, Jerico Christian Journeys.
The Good Help and Guadalupe shrines, along with Holy Hill — located on 435 acres 28 miles northwest of downtown Milwaukee in Hubertus — are Wisconsin's three major Catholic pilgrimage sites honoring Mary. They attract tens of thousands of visitors each year, while elsewhere around the state, grottoes and minor shrines also pull in the faithful and curious.
