Thank you to all who have given their lives that we might live in freedom and safety.

This might be my favorite picture ever

Abp. Listecki firing a cannon- video YES!

Right towards the end.  He's been doing this for some years (an Army vet), but this is the first video I've seen.

Abp Listecki to lead Memorial Day Mass, then to fire CANNON

In a booming recognition of those from Wisconsin who died in America's costliest war, Milwaukee Archbishop Jerome Listecki will not only lead an outdoor Mass on Memorial Day – he will personally fire a salute from a Civil War cannon.

Noted author and historian Lance Herdegen will assist Listecki in loading and firing and will be the keynote speaker for the secular portion of the ceremony at Calvary Cemetery, 5503 Blue Mound Rd.

President Abraham Lincoln – portrayed by Nicholas Bur – will also speak, and the First Brigade Band will play songs and hymns from the Civil War era on original musical instruments used during the war.
continue at Wauwatosa Patch

He's done this for a few years now, and every year I wish I was closer to attend.  Someone get a close up photo!

In case you were unaware, Listecki served as an Army Reserve Chaplain in the United States Army Reserves for 20 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.

Happy Memorial Day

Remember those who have died for our freedoms today. Be grateful to God for the freedoms we enjoy that have been secured by the blood and sacrifice of hundreds of thousands of Americans who have fought in wars.

God Bless America!
