Veni, redemptor gentium

Veni, redemptor gentium is an ancient Catholic hymn composed by St. Ambrose of Milan(340-397).  I thought this rendition was stunning.  There isn't much details for the singers.

Its English translation is usually rendered Come, thou Redeemer of the earth.  I was hoping to find a video online, but I cant.  If you know of one freely available in English, post a comment.

It's also the melodic base for another hymn, using the English translation of "Ubi Caritas":

"Where Charity and Love Prevail..." written by Paul Benoit.

It's #4 on this page: http://www.emusic.com/album/WLP-Choir-Catholic-Treasures-III-Classic-Hymns-and-Songs-MP3-Download/11199520.html

Hey thanks! Dad29, you have become my professor of traditional Catholic music... of couse I mean professor in the true sense, without the espousal to liberalism found in most Catholic university professors.

Thanks, but there are FAR better 'perfessors' right here in Wisconsin regarding liturgical music and liturgy, both EF and OF.

Just so happens I'm older than dirt and recall a bunch of stuff.

I hope the powers that be put the 'perfessors' in the right places. I grew up on guitar Mass...

LOL, can't be that old if your memory still serves you well! :)

Wish I could say that they were 'put in the right places,' but they're not.

Sad to say, the secular chorales do much more Catholic music than do the churches--albeit that is slowly, slowly, slowly turning.

BTW, Google is my "memory." Just call me 'techno-gramps.'

I ordered one of their CDs. I'll post on it after I get a listen.
