Woman leaves Catholic Church but still listening to Her

As a Roman Catholic woman priest, I feel compelled to express my disbelief that the Vatican would even think of listing the ordination of women in the same category of crimes as the pedophilia of male priests - those who abuse the most vulnerable among us, our children.

That the self-appointed "leaders" of the Catholic church could even suggest that women following their God-given call to become ordained in order that they might meet the unmet spiritual needs of their sisters and brothers in Christ is the same kind of offense as priest predators of innocent children is yet another assault to follow many heaped on women throughout the history of the Catholic Church.

On July 25, the Catholic Church marks the feast day of a courageously loyal and faith-filled woman-prophet, first witness of the resurrection, Mary Magdalene, whom many Catholics grew up believing was a common whore - of course, redeemed.

This lie, conjectured by early Church fathers, was all about reframing a strong, courageous woman-prophet-witness into someone who wouldn't ultimately have to be taken seriously.

The assaults and lies continue today as women are said to be unworthy to image Christ. If that is the case, I ask why we bother to baptize women?

For any Catholic women and men reading this or people of other denominations who feel outraged by this insane pronouncement, I invite you to take up this issue with your priest, pastors or whomever you feel will listen to you.

This kind of statement not only hurts women but men, too, because any thinking person knows in his or her heart and soul that such an action is born out of desperation and fear.

If you are a disenfranchised Catholic looking for an inclusive community that believes that women do indeed image Jesus, the Christ, please join us for liturgy at 10 a.m. this Sunday at 451 Huff Street.

Two points. First, women cant be priests like chocolate milk can't become the Blood of Christ.  How American to decide whatever I want I can have.  I can't become a mother either.  But that's just the way things are.  Second, why does she care what the "self-appointed leaders of the Catholic Church" think?  She has already left the Church and started her own on Huff Street.  It sure would be nice to see some Catholics in Winona respond to her claims.  The always helpful Fr. Z talks more about this topic here.

Hmm, seems she's a regular writer in the WinonaDaily.

And they have a blog.  Remember, be charitable.

Frankly, as a faithful Catholic woman, I find that picture as distateful as a picture of drag queens. Yucky. But also take note of their ages. Not a one under forty. They're a dying breed. I pray for their conversion, but time has a way of dealing with obstinate sixties hold-outs. That's not a picture of the present or future Church. It's the picture of some feminist's acid trip.

Let it go, ladies, and welcome to the twenty-first century. The Church needs building up, not tearing down. Your energy is being wasted on a pointless battle.
