Mass attendance in GB diocese up 7% following ‘Catholics Come Home’ ads

Mass attendance in the Diocese of Green Bay increased 7.4% following the airing of commercials produced by Catholics Come Home, according to a diocesan survey. 53% of pastors reported an increase in the number of confessions, and 44% of parishioners surveyed saw the commercials between 11 and 30 times.

The Catholics Come Home apostolate uses the media to inspire, educate, and evangelize inactive Catholics and others, and invite them to live a deeper faith in Jesus Christ, in accord with the Church’s Magisterium.

Mass attendance

The Mass attendance census used figures taken in October 2009 and figures taken two weekends in April 2010. DeNeve noted that first Communions were held at 75 of the churches in April, which could have affected the statistical results.

She also noted that some parishes reported not seeing a change in attendance. "Some of our smaller parishes may have only had one or two more people come for the sacraments, which may not seem like a lot," she explained. "And large parishes that have over 500 people at Mass may not even notice if there are 25 or 35 more people attending Mass that day. The program was a great success, but that does not mean our Masses became standing-room-only events."
If they want to keep them there, they had better offer a Sacred Liturgy.  Sappy Music and "Good Morning my sisters and brothers" ain't gonna get people out of bed.
