La Crosse TribMADISON - The University of Wisconsin Board of Regents has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to consider whether UW-Madison must pay for student activities involving prayer, worship and proselytizing.
The Roman Catholic Foundation student group, now known as Badger Catholic, sued in 2007 after the university declined its requests to cover costs for activities such as printing booklets and hosting spiritual retreats. The board and the university argued using student fees for such expenses would violate the separation of church and state.
A federal appeals court in September found in the Catholic group's favor, saying the refusal violated the group's free speech rights.
UW officials argue a Supreme Court ruling would help clarify the lines between church and state. The Catholic group's attorney didn't immediately return messages.
That is the OTHER Badger Catholic. Jee wiz, I spend all this time googling to make sure my name's original and then a group more solid than me comes along and steals my thunder. :) They legally did have the name first.
I can imagine that there's lots of wringing of hands going on right now in Madison. Libs thinking *gasp* that some of their Sex Out Loud funding has been funneled to a group associated with THAT religion. Sorry but real Progress doesn't come from Liberals. "Forward Thinking" properly understood means to think guided by truth ultimately to the fullness of Truth. That IS progress. Liberals general use progress as the method to conform everyone to themselves.
