Pro-Life Wisconsin statement on Personhood

Pro-Life Wisconsin is deeply saddened by Wisconsin Right to Life’s February 15 position paper vowing to oppose any effort to grant Wisconsin’s pre-born babies full constitutional rights as persons. The pro-life movement is founded on the bedrock principle that all human beings, at all stages of their biological development, deserve full protection under the law. WRL admits that their legal reasoning for opposing a state personhood amendment is speculative.  Not knowing how the courts will react to a state personhood amendment, and with abortion on demand the legal status quo in Wisconsin, why oppose proactive people of good will endeavoring to provide full and lasting legal protection for preborn children?

We remain committed to constitutionally protecting Wisconsin’s preborn children, regardless of opposition from the abortion industry or from within the right to life movement.  If you have further questions, please contact Pro-Life Wisconsin at 262-796-1111.

I do have those WRTL docs, I'll have to just post them on one of my websites.  Maybe I can do it via Google docs....

My friend explained pro-life to me over several weeks, one on one, years ago. By May, 1998, the truth of the entire pro-life Catholic Church Teachings had taken root in my life. Pro-Life Wisconsin informed us that there was an abortuary across the street from St. Raphael Cathedral on Henry Street in Madison. A regular pro-life presence was kept there, and we could go there and learn from those pro-lifers. One of the groups we learned from was The Servants of Our Lady of Guadalupe. My friend had told me we had to DO something, so that is what we did. We learned from them. We were blessed on December 12, 2003, the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, to be used by God to be directed to a Mom who was considering abortion, due to the Pro-Life Wisconsin button I was wearing. Mom did call the crisis pregnancy center we recommended, and Baby is now seven years old, and has met and been blessed by then Bishop Raymond Burke at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse. Pro-Life Wisconsin has been steadfast in helping us on the streets and the Capitol in Madison defending life. We thank God for Pro-Life Wisconsin and their hard work defending life in Wisconsin through the years. We support the Personhood Amendment along with them. Please come to the Pro-Life Wisconsin Day at the Capitol on Thursday, March 10, 2011, for more information about the Personhood Amendment and other legislative work. Please see their website for more information. We thank God for Pro-Life Wisconsin. They explain the contraceptive mentality, which is the root of abortion.

Did you read their reasoning? I urge you to read their legislative analysis
http://www.wrtl.org/pdf/2011%20Legislative%20Analysis%20Personhood%20%20%20011911.pdf

From my understanding WRTL is NOT against the personhood amendment itself but the enactment of it in our state. This is because we have an abortion ban in our state law. If this amendment were passed it would unnecessarily hurt our current laws. Because the wording of the two do not match, if Roe V Wade were overturned it would leave our abortion ban unconstitutional and therefore would be challenged by Planned Parenthood and the like. Then it would be over turned and we would have to count on having all the right people in place at that time to try and redo what was undone by this amendment. IT is great in places without abortion bans but it would do more harm then good here, and I am all for saving babies not putting more at unnecessary risk. Besides the justices in the Supreme court, even the good ones, have voted against this 19 times, because they feel it has no constitutional bearing.

Yes, I have read the explanation. Have you read the rebuttal? http://badgercatholic.blogspot.com/2011/03/personhood-of-preborn-in-wisconsin.html

The current abortion ban contains exceptions... babies who are already at unnecessary risk.

Anon, not sure what you are referring. You may want to check out http://badgercatholic.blogspot.com/2011/01/how-late-can-abortion-be-done-in.html

Abortion can be(and have been) done through all nine months of pregnancy in Wisconsin.
