Abp Listecki to fire cannon off Memorial Day Civil War event

Milwaukee Archbishop Jerome Listecki, who is also a retired lieutenant colonel in the United States Army Reserves, will fire a Civil War cannon as part of a Civil War Sesquicentennial Memorial Day service May 30 at Calvary Cemetery, 5503 W. Bluemound Road.

The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War and Auxiliary will host the event, which starts at 10 a.m. Listecki will perform Mass, and afterwards the First Brigade Band will play Civil War era music on original musical instruments. The ceremony will also include rifle and musket salutes, as well as the playing of "Taps" and the decoration of veterans' graves. The cemetery contains the graves of Civil War veterans.

The event is free and open to the public.

We have gone to an outdoor Memorial Day Mass for a few years now(at a permanent outdoor fixed altar).  I find it quite edifying.  Some of the people talking to each other, you know cause there outside, not so much.
