Does anyone else think it is odd that there is a vote Wednesday to defund Planned Parenthood in Wisconsin and nether Wisconsin Right to Life nor Wisconsin Catholic Conference has issued public statement to support the measure? Even the USCCB issued a statement in support of defunding Planned Parenthood. The USCCB also said defunding Planned Parenthood ‘not one of those hard choices.’
It seems like an easy choice to me as well. If there's one bill either group should ever support, wouldn't you think it would be removing taxpayer funded abortions? I don't think it is wise to leave pro-life legislators to hang out to dry with no public support from pro-life institutions in the state.

The WCC's stance on the issue is under it's "Issue Briefs" page on the 2011 Biennial Budget Bill:
"Defund Abortion Providers. Although abortion providers in Wisconsin are barred from directly using taxpayer dollars to perform abortions, they nevertheless do receive federal and state dollars for “family planning” services. These services normally include providing
contraceptives and morning-after pills to adults and children (without parental consent), testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, pregnancy testing, pelvic exams, and Pap smears. Despite claims to the contrary, abortion is not health care. The WCC opposes taxpayer funding of entities that promote or perform abortion, and supports redirecting these funds to support maternal and child health."
The press release on it came out in April, when the budget was proposed.
Thanks Kat. At one point a while ago I asked the WCC to create a RSS feed for their content. I'm never sure where to look, even when the union statement came out I couldn't find it.
A press release and an action alert, urging its list to oppose or support a certain measure, are 2 different things. A press release from April is rather irrelevant to legislators now, considering NARAL and PP are firing off emails and robocalls to legislators left and right. Is not opposition to PPWI worthy of an action alert, as was the WCC opposition to concealed carry?
