Happy Birthday Cardinal Burke!

Today is Cardinal Burke’s birthday. Please remember His Eminence in your prayers, perhaps by praying the Chaplet of the Holy Face for his intentions:

God, come to my assistance.
Lord, make haste to help me.

Glory to the Father…

Let God arise, let His enemies be scattered;
let those who hate Him flee before His Holy Face.

(33 times in honor of the mortal life of Our Lord)

Glory to the Father… (3 in honor of the Trinity)

 63 years, and many more!

That leaves 17 years until His Eminence is no longer eligible for election to the papacy..... just sayin!

Technically, the only requirements to be elected Pope are baptism and being male. Seventy is the age that cardinals are no longer eligible to vote in the papal conclave, but they can still be elected Pope no matter how old they are.

This was on wikipedia:

In 1970, Pope Paul VI limited the electors to cardinals under 80 years of age.

I didn't realize the electee had no age limit though...

Yeah. Eighty is the right age. I was thinking about something else and typed it incorrectly.

Paul VI wrote "Romano Pontifico Eligendo" in 1975 (not 1970). He set the age at eighty for the cardinal electors.

John Paul II reiterated the age in 1996 with his document "Universi Dominici Gregis" in 1996 but made some other changes.

In 2007 Benedict XVI reinstated the traditional number of required votes for election in his document "De Aliquibus Mutationibus".

These are the most recent documents regarding the election of a Pope. Regardless, there is no age requirement for the one being elected Pope, so Burke will always have a chance!
