More details on Cardinal Burke cancelling on conference in England

Fr. Paul Kramer
So some organization called Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice was going to hold some conference in England on June 18. They invited Cardinal Raymond Burke, one of the most ardent champions of orthodox Catholic teaching and worship to speak at the conference. He kindly agreed to do so. Then, somebody apparently pointed out to the cardinal that the group spent a lot of time fomenting reactionary dissent. So he bailed. Does that make everything the English bishops do peachy? No. But it did send a clear message that the healthy response to problem bishops is not to foment reactionary dissent.

Response: The conference organizers, either in complete and utter ignorance or sheer stupidity, decided to invite Fr. Paul Kramer and Robert Sungenis to speak in his place, thereby confirming the wisdom of Burke’s decision to get out while the getting was good.

Fr. Kramer is notable for his theories of a vast “They’re tunneling under your house” conspiracy involving Rome in some sinister plot to hide the Real Third Secret of Fatima. He also feels himself called to hold forth on how the Second Vatican Council (a valid council of Holy Mother Church) was “satanic.”

Those critical of Cardinal Burke's cancellation are now praising the move as details become available.

Well, I'm not surprised at all to find this sort of shallow, ill-informed rhetoric has its source in Mark Shea. Par for the course.
Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice has been, for many decades, a well-known (but not by Mark Shea) and respected (ditto) Catholic organization trying to reverse the disastrous decline of the Church in the UK. They do this mainly by promoting the Latin Mass and the faithful teaching of Catholic Truth.
These are not schismatics or sedevacantists, but they're dealing with a situation in Great Britain that is in many ways far worse than it has ever gotten here in the US. Imagine the USCCB made up of Rembert Weakland clones.
The unsatisfactory nature of their last-minute speaker replacements (and Fr. Kramer agreed beforehand NOT to speak about Fatima) shouldn't be an excuse to slander a group of faithful Catholics who do what they do out of love for Christ and his Church. And let's remember who their FIRST choice was to speak at their conference.
If Mark Shea doesn't know about "some organization" perhaps he should take a few minutes to do a quick google search before shooting his mouth off. And what exactly does "fomenting reactionary dissent" mean anyway? I would encourage everyone to go to their website and found out who they are. Read their stuff, listen to some of the many talks available by reactionary dissenters like Daphne McLeod, Fr. Hugh Thwaites and of course, the notorious Archbishop Fulton Sheen. Find out what horrible reactionary dissenters they truly are!
I'm sorry for the rant but Shea's casual assumption of omniscience and snide dismissal of everything not in his orbit, just ticks me off.

A quick read of Dr. Bill Oddie's (former Editor of Britain's Catholic Herald) June 20th piece in the same Catholic Herald on Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice would also have been informative...
