I found out that local
Chesterton Societies as far away as Minneapolis, Milwaukee and Green Bay will be meeting Saturday October 8th in centrally located La Crosse for a Chesterton picnic. I don't yet have the details but
Dale Ahlquist will be speaking at the event. This will be nice since the annual
Cheston Society Conference now moves each year whereas before they were held in St. Paul, MN each year. I would LOVE to go this year too as Christopher Check is giving a talk on GKC's epic poem
Lepanto, but it's out of range for the 0,1&3 year olds. The details have not been hashed out yet, but I will post when ready. Email me if you would like to get in touch with the folks here in La Crosse to bring your society as well.

That would also be a good opportunity to make a pilgrimage to Heileman's, errr, the Guadalupe Shrine!!
I've drunk enough "Green Death" to not need a pilgrimage to Heileman's. And I think it no longer exists, by that name, anyway.
Hmmmph. Not just in St Paul, my man.
They were held in Milwaukee for YEARS, at the old Minor Seminary, due to the influence of Dr. Marc Griesbach, Phil Prof at MU. (And an orthodox Catholic, mind you).
(Griesbach's son (one of his twelve chilluns) is now the Federal judge in Green Bay, by the way.)
Both Marc and his wife (RIP) were Chestertonians, as well as Mrs. Farrell and (IIRC) a couple of other MU profs.
St Paul is a johnny-come-lately to the parade.
Ray: Ahh the Green Death. Yes, they no longer brew it in La Crosse, mostly soda contract work.
Dad: Thank you for the update! And people say you are cranky... ;)
