I just want to say..

... that I enjoyed this Brewer season like no other in my lifetime.  It hurts now, but when I look back on this season thirty years from now the next time the Brewers make the playoffs, I will smile.  The bottom line is that the Brewers peaked too early in the season and The Yankees of the West got hot at exactly the right time.  I hope the Manager enjoyed his victory and I'm sure he enjoyed that puppy he ate in his victory celebration.

LOL. Yeah, I was really looking forward to the first Brewers World Series in my lifetime, but that's the way it goes for small market teams. We did pretty darn well, for what it's worth.

Oh, btw, I'm pretty sure he kicked the puppy before he ate it.

"Yankees of the West"? The Cardinals payroll for 2011 was $105 million, which places them at 11th on the list of all MLB teams (5th in National League -- link here: http://content.usatoday.com/sportsdata/baseball/mlb/salaries/team

By comparison, the Brewers were at $85 million, and ranked 17th on the list (9th in NL). That $20 million difference is effectively accounted for by Matt Holliday and Lance Berkman. Also, if the brewers pay Fielder $25 million next year, along with the increase to Braun, the Brewers will be close to the Cardinals payroll (before the Pujols contract). St. Louis is also a small media market, and not much bigger than Milwaukee.

So I'm guessing you are comparing the Cardinals to the Yankees based on the number of World Series wins rather than payroll. I don't think you can blame a team for being historically good. Otherwise, should we refer to the Packers, with 13 championships, the "Yankees of football"?

Regardless, this was a good series. Both teams played well. St. Louis certainly got hot at the right time. I don't know about the puppy part though.

Yes, the reference is to the success of the franchise. I'm not sure I'm "blaming" them or giving them a backhanded compliment. Like the Twins who can not beat the Yankees when it matters the Brewers cannot beat the Cardinals when it matters. I'm not sure a 12-6 game is a "good" game as far as quality of competition, but certainly the Cardinals deserved to win. Congrats.

*sigh* Well, so much for the Great Lakes World Series. If it's any consolation, my team lost by 10 and were outscored by a factor of 3, whereas yours only lost by 6, and were merely doubled up.

At least we have Thanksgiving Day to wager over.

And I'm not going to touch this Saturday's "Big 10-then 11-now 12" football game. I may be a die-hard Spartan fan, but I'm not stupid.

Good teams expose suspect pitching. I think we experienced that. Yes, hopefully at Thanksgiving time we can shake hands afterwards without brawling.

Regardless of the score, the Brewers did not go down without a fight last night. They were almost matching the Cardinals' runs in the first few innings, and once again they beat up on the starting pitcher. The offense was stepping up when it needed to (see: Lucroy), but the Cardinals just outlasted them. The Hairston errors didn't help, but also probably didn't end their chances either.

Anyway, despite being a Cardinals fan, I would have rooted for the Brewers in the World Series (everyone except Nyjer Morgan). I had actually planned to root for the Brewers in the playoffs when the Cardinals looked like they were out of it. I thought it was a good series, and the Brewers had a great season.

Thank you for the condolences :)

You also have my condolences. It was fun to watch whatever I could of the games. I'm looking forward to the Series. My Yankee-fan husband and sons are doing their best to show interest.

Here in St. Louis the local Mobil gas stations have a 25 cent drink special the day after the Cards score 6 or more runs. Not only did the Cards win, but we also have 25 cent coffees, sodas or slushies today. Awesome!

At least you have the consolation of the Packers. Didn't they just beat the Rams 24-3?

Thank you Cathy! I think they should send some of those specials up river. Yes, I sure wouldn't have minded had the Packers & Brewers swapped victories, but we are fortunate to be having another great season in football.
