The La Crosse Chesterton Society hosted Dale Ahlquist and other Chesterton societies from the area this weekend. I could only stay for the first part but it was fantastic. Dale is an excellent speaker. I found out that there is a homeschooling group in Sparta(who are Anglicans) who have been studying Chesterton in depth. Also did you know there is only one regional Chesterton society in Minnesota(Dale lives in the Twin Cities) and there are six in Wisconsin? No wonder they started moving the annual conference around the US instead of holding it in St. Paul every year.
I asked Dale a question about the cause for GK. Now, I didn't ask the question because I want everyone to hero worship him. Chesterton continues to be ignored in exactly the places where he is most needed. If what Chesterton taught is true, and he was indeed a good man who bore his cross well, then the Church should give affirmation to that so that the faithful can consume his works with that assurance. He wasn't just another writer.... but I digress. Dale said the bishop of his home diocese in England is heading up the cause but has no knowledge of Chesterton(go figure). The Chesterton Society itself is doing the footwork right now but it hasn't even been formally introduced to the Congregation for the Cause of Saints yet. He did have some prayer cards at his table but I had to run and didn't get a chance to grab one. I think they have them online somewhere but I have yet to find it. With that I'll share a story related to me.
There was a young couple attending the wedding reception next door who stopped by for a smoke at the end of the night. Dale, Kevin, Rita, the loud man wearing a kilt who was always talking about smoking, and some others were outside when the couple walked up to ask if they could join them. The conversation started by talking about the persecution of smokers and ended with Dale giving them an autographed copy of his book and Rita inviting them to join the local G.K. Chesterton society. Apparently someone asked if the couple if they had ever heard of Chesterton. Both responded no. Dale then yelled out that "it isn't your fault!" Another humorous moment is when the young woman (I think the couple was our age) said she is a stay-at-home mother, the entire group of Chestertonians erupted in applause. At any rate the event was fantastic and I hope they do it again next year.
Brewers Fever is gripping Wisconsin. I've been literally dreaming about it. Seeing Prince get choked up after that amazing Game 5 of the NLDS got me choked up. The whole thing is much different than the Super Bowl run. I feel so much more a part of this Brewers team. The kids all love doing Beast Mode and singing Take Me Out to the Ballgame; this is what life is all about, lol. Sometimes I have to let my oldest stay up because he wants to watch the Brewer game with Dada. He might never see this again!
Don't like Wall Street? Become a Distributist! Or are you still letting a Socialist professor tell you how to think?
Virginia did her own version of Beast Mode, but she's posting about that later this week.
Did Bishop Hying really have a "Life Teen Mass"? Poor guy.
We had an open house on Sunday. One person came. Say a prayer for us to sell our house if you would be so obliged. Hey, and if you know somebody who's looking in the area, have them take a look.
Alright, lunch break over. Back to work.

You have NO IDEA how hard Guardian Angels work until you've seen every one of your chilluns take a header down the stairs (the whole 12 feet) and pop up scared, but unhurt.
Or drive their bikes full-speed into brick walls. Or...with the car....
(Can't tell you that. You'd go bananaz.)
It made me think that the whole reason it happened was so I realized that fact... Thank you, because I'm already going bananaz as it is!
Bishop Hying is becoming quite the concern for me. Before Life Teen Mass, he took part in this:

The first one happened a few weeks ago. Very troubling.
I guess it is important we remember he's not the boss either. Hard to say how much input he has in the matter.
Let's ask G.K. Chesterton top intercede for the sale of your house!
Badger, although I agree with you - he's still shepherding a very impressionable flock.
I guess "troubling" might be a bit grandiose although my "concern" isn't unfounded.
