Perhaps you could offer a Novena to the Immaculate Conception.I received this note today from a seminarian who's asking for prayers. I post it here so that you'll be aware of his prayer request. — Patrick Madrid

"My name is Zach Weber and I am a seminarian for The Diocese of Green Bay at Saint Meinrad Seminary. On December 14th in Sheboygan WI, I am scheduled to give a talk on Chastity, Purity, Modesty, and the Truth of the Church to over 350 8th-12th grade CCD students. I am very concerned about there souls due to the poor Catechism classes and there lack of substance. I realize that not all programs are poor, but with only 15% of people coming back to Mass after being confirmed I am hoping to make a huge impact on their lives. I have been offering up holy hours, rosaries, and Mass' for the students for a couple of Months.
If you could please forward this e-mail to anyone you know to pray for the souls of the students who will be attending I would greatly appreciate it.
God Bless and thanks for all you do for the Church,"

Interesting tidbit: Recently, I was out with a married friend for dinner in Milwaukee at a place frequented by young professionals. While we were waiting for our table, we had a drink. Three men our age started talking to us and wanted to buy us another drink. Neither my friend nor I were interested and declined. The three started making disparaging comments to my friend about marriage - "Women are just baggage", "who gets married these days anymore", "what a waste". Aside from the obvious rudeness, I found their comments to be symbolic of the cultural shift away from marriage as a whole. I have so many single Catholic female friends who are attractive, have a good job, are well-educated, etc and yet they are continually disappointed with their dating prospects. I remarked to my friend, after our dinner incident, that it's a miracle the human race manages to continue, when the dating pool is filled with louts. After reading a WSJ column today about how grown men now spend more time playing video games than do teenagers, I'm not concerned with the human race continuing (given humans' hierarchy of needs) but with the fate of Catholics. When there are no men left to defend marriage, women, and the faith -- where do we go?
Man, those boys got game! Like dude, I really enjoy eeeeeating, and drinking, and sleeeeeeeping, and fornicaaaaaating, and video gaaaames and all that stuff.
The simple answer is this
"The Catholic Church is the only thing which saves a man from the degrading slavery of being a child of his age." - GK Chesterton
And I do emphasise child.
In that vein... I was out with a different group of friends (lawyers, mostly), I think I am the most Catholic of the group. This was the day the Sandusky/PSU incident imploded, so of course it was a topic of discussion. I wasn't saying much because I wanted to see where the conversation would go without my theological musings. It was fascinating to observe, when one of these lawyers said, You know... every fallen civilization so far has turned to pederasty while on the decline. The implication, as it's not much of a secret these days, is that the US is on the decline as well.
Sadly, most men if told that they could prevent the fall of the US but that it would require sacrifice and hard work would shrug.
Rome fell not so much because people lost their minds as much as they lost their wills.
But you never know, that's what miracles are for.
