A group of 80 former Catholic priests on Thursday announced their opposition to the constitutional marriage amendment.
The November ballot measure would define marriage as between one man and one woman, and is strongly supported by the Catholic Church.
John Estrem, a former rector at the Cathedral of St. Paul who went on to head Catholic Charities, said the Church he knows is about love and inclusion.
"As a Catholic and former priest, I encourage all to vote no on this amendment," Estrem said. "Enshrining discrimination does not promote marriage. It simply diminishes us all."
In a letter submitted to the Star Tribune, titled "Catholics of Minnesota you have a choice!" they wrote, "There is not just one way for Catholics to vote in November."continue at MPR

However, regarding same-sex unions even the Catholic Hierarchy has members with different views on this issue. The Cardinal Archbishop of Vienna,Christoph Schonborn is one who has a different point of view.The Cardinal is very hip.

Sadly, there is a reason why each of these men are "former" priests... Their statement speaks volumes about the confusion within their hearts. :( We need to entrust each of them to Our Lady and PRAY!
The article is a little confusing. There are actually 2 groups here: 1) a group of 80 former priests, including the one you quoted; 2) a group of 3 retired priests (pictured) who are still involved in sacramental ministry part time.
