Rep. Lee Nerison, the only Republican legislator from the Coulee Region[yeah, we have our problems], said the vote showed people in his rural district, which includes Crawford and Vernon counties, support the governor’s tough choices.La Crosse Trib
“People were ready for all the spending to slow down,” Nerison said.
Heim said recall opposition likely was a factor, as was the timing of the election.
Walker had eight months to campaign, while Barrett had just eight weeks. And the 15 months since the introduction of controversial measures to end most collective bargaining for public workers allowed some of the passion on the left to dissipate. [The Trib editor wrote this article. It is utterly ridiculous to suggest that democrats had eight weeks to campaign. I'm pretty sure I've seen Recall Walker signs for longer than that.]
Republicans also did a good job of getting voters to the polls, Heim said. “When they rang the bell to defend their governor, they came running.”
Therefore, brethren, stand fast; and hold the traditions which you have learned, whether by word, or by our epistle. 2 Thes 2:15
"When they rang the bell to defend their governor, they came running.”
I just love that quote!

Eight weeks? Yeah, right! They had over a year and have been pounding the drums that long. The 'eight weeks' probably refers to the fact that the unions thought they had sewn up the nomination of Kathleen Falk as the candidate. Barrett changed that when he decided to run.
If Falk had been the candidate the margin for Walker would have been even greater...
