Baby Roundup

Thanks for the congratulatories.  Baby started laughing after only a few days old, which is the right approach to the depressing news of finding out I am your father.  Virginia made our third such a lovely cap with these roses on it, I'm hoping for another XX chromosome eventually to show it off some more.

I'll be heading to Knights of Divine Mercy in Cross Plains September 7th.  I'd like to get KDM started in La Crosse.  If there's anyone interested in riding with or starting a local La Crosse KDM, let me know.  I just finished a book(The Hobbit) and was going to start on Fr. Heilman's Field Manual but for some reason I thought I could get it on Kindle, but it is in fact paper only.  I'm going to order it soon. Hoping maybe they have some copies there for sale.  So in the meantime I picked up The Rhine Flows Into The Tiber

John McAdams of Marquette Warrior fame was all over the news being interviewed on the Paul Ryan selection.  Oddly enough, I never, ever watch local news but happened to turn it on to see his interview.  I think he's got a good take on the selection.

Bishop Callahan lauds the Crystal Cathedral as.... sigh... well, read for yourself:
The opportunity presented itself to tour the new diocesan cathedral –actually the former Crystal Cathedral – the birthplace of the Hour of Power ministry of Rev. Robert Schuller. What a major work of art and a spiritual dynamo for the future of the Diocese of Orange. It is gigantic and should be ready for them to begin using it as the new Christ Cathedral in three years. Over 33 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds, outdoor statuary of significance and, of course, loads of parking! I’m sure it will be a destination for Catholic pilgrims for years to come.
I can say that I clearly do not understand him.  He did such a stupendous job with the Basilica in Milwaukee.  There is no other church in the world I'd rather be praying in.  The Crystal Cathedral stands in stark contrast to the beauty of the jewel of our state.  I guess he doesn't call the church itself beautiful, only the landscape, so maybe he's just being politically correct here.

Remember when I'd always be digging up old photos of churches in Wisconsin that had since been wreckovated?  I should start doing that again, if my heart can take it.

Which reminds me a while ago I had this really weird dream about Terry and my whole family was living with him, and he was in these book clubs.... Any rate, I was going to do a whole post on it and I forgot what the point was.

Wow, everybody is talking about Paul Ryan, and how it is immoral to stop the growth of the federal budget.  This election just became Ryan vs Obama.  Rush says Ryan is "the last boy scout" which is the perfect name for his new biography I'll be writing(well actually I'll pay someone who can write to write it and have them slap my name on it, I guess that's how it works in DC).  Usury is still a sin it turns out, but don't ask any of the Bernardites.  I'm okay with necessary government programs if they are paid for by tax increases(I'm a heretic, I know).  I've never quite grasped how spending increases can coincide with no taxation increases.

I saw the Romney commitment to abortion rights.   Tell me something I didn't already know.  Even if he wasn't already, he would be supporting abortion because of the news of the day.  I'm glad Obama makes this easy.  If it's a moderate like Bill Clinton, I think the vote question gets more serious.  Awkward for a few groups like Catholic Vote and Jill Stanek who endorsed the Romney ticket already.  If I ran a group like that I'd have a predefined criteria for endorsement.  Politics is about electing good people, not supporting a particular party(again, Obama makes the choice an easy one).  Don't even get me started on Tommy, I'll do another post on him later.

I have no idea how I will keep up with all the Paul Ryan news, but I'll try.   I don't think he's a Latin Masser like Santorum was rumored to be, but it appears he practices his faith(Yes, I'm thinking about getting pictures from his home parish, does anyone know which one)?  Not to be the Catholic paparazzi but, I think we are all curious, right?

For the record, I did go to Walmart the other day.  Maybe I'm becoming a capitalist now, I'm not sure. Kidding! ...although every time I mention being a Distributist I lose 50 followers.  Yep, still voting for "the man" either way.

U.S. Catholic Church finances and their mismanagment

Yes, I feel out of the loop when I haven't checked Fr. Z's and CMReport and even Abbey Roads for a couple of days.  I thought Rorate was on hiatus but had a great post on the desecration at Moscow's Cathedral.  One of my first posts was on its destruction and the proposal for the Palace of Soviets.

Well I'm going to try to get caught up this week(64 emails flagged to follow up on..) and I still owe CMReport a couple posts.  So much has been said already about Paul Ryan I'm not sure what else to add.  Maybe a Hey Girl Meme?  LOL

Ryan's Home Parish would be St. John Vianney Parish in Janesville, according to the Madison Catholic Herald's article from last week (Only in the print. Subscribe today! Sorry; had to do it.).

Maybe I should.. but I'd rather subscribe online than kill another tree though.... and you would probably get quite a few new subscriptions if they knew about the Ryan article.

Never been a fan of Fr Z. About the time he tried to make the case that JPII laid the groundwork for B16 to restore tradition, made me realize Z has a few screws loose.

You sure baby isn't laughing at that Packer cap? Now *that* is something to be depressed at: born into a Packer family. Brah-ha-ha.
