The Romney campaign has released excerpts of Paul Ryan's speech to be delivered very soon in Norfolk, Virginia:
Mitt Romney is a leader with the skills, the background and the character that our country needs at a crucial time in its history. Following four years of failed leadership, the hopes of our country, which have inspired the world, are growing dim; and they need someone to revive them. Governor Romney is the man for this moment; and he and I share one commitment: we will restore the dreams and greatness of this country.…For the last 14 years, I have proudly represented Wisconsin in Congress. There, I have focused on solving the problems that confront our country, and turning ideas into action; and action into solutions.I am committed, in mind and heart, to putting that experience to work in a Romney Administration. This is a crucial moment in the life of our nation; and it is absolutely vital that we select the right man to lead America back to prosperity and greatness. That man is standing next to me. His name is Mitt Romney. And he will be the next president of the United States.…Let me say a word about the man Mitt Romney will replace. No one disputes President Obama inherited a difficult situation. And, in his first 2 years, with his party in complete control of Washington, he passed nearly every item on his agenda. But that didn’t make things better. In fact, we find ourselves in a nation facing debt, doubt and despair. This is the worst economic recovery in 70 years.Unemployment has been above 8 percent for more than three years, the longest run since the Great Depression. Families are hurting.

Virginia must be thrilled
This is rather sad really.
If Ryan were the Presidential candidate, I could probably vote for him.
But as merely the VP, any vote for him just puts Romney in office. Not a good thing for the long term benefit of the country or the Church. Romney is like that little pain that you keep trying to ignore, but eventually kills you because you never went to the doctor. Obama is that chestpain you can't ignore. There's more hope that the bishops will wake up with Obama, rather than going back to pretending nothing is wrong under Romney.
But what a temptation to Catholics! Them shakers and movers sure are shrewd.
Bummer.
“...This is a big moment for Catholic voters to step back from their party affiliation,” said Archbishop Lori. “The question to ask is this: Are any of the candidates of either party, or independents, standing for something that is intrinsically evil, evil no matter what the circumstances? If that’s the case, a Catholic, regardless of his party affiliation, shouldn’t be voting for such a person. ...” Archbishop William Lori, Baltimore http://www.catholicculture.org/news/headlines/index.cfm?storyid=15210
If Archbishop Lori is correct, and I know in my heart and soul he is, a Catholic cannot vote for Romney. Just because Ryan is on the ticket does not change the fact that Romney believes in and implements intrinsic evils.
If people are scandalized at the Truth, it is better to allow the birth of scandal, than to abandon the Truth.~~Pope St. Gregory the Great
The simple step of a courageous individual is not to take part in the lie. One word of truth outweighs the world.-- Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
You can resolve to live your life with integrity. Let your credo be this: Let the lie come into the world, let it even triumph. But not through me.-- Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn
"... So we choose the lesser evil, thinking we have been saved from the great evil, when all the while satan's real purpose was to bring about the evil we have chosen... ." "The Father's Tale", p. 496, Michael O'Brien
Quid est Veritas?
Cassandra, so you are going to vote for Obama so things get worse and the bishops wake up? That is nonsensical.
RF,
What Intrinsic Evil is Romney for? If any candidate in this race stands for Intrinsic evil, it is the President.

@CatholicSoldier.
No, I'm not going to vote for Obama. That would be outright immoral.
At the same time, I can't support the Republicans, either. They play the pro-lifers for chumps every four years, yet do nothing concrete to end abortion.
Pro-lifers need to move beyond the two dominant parties and form their own. They must stop trying for immediate effectiveness by compromising with corrupt parties and rather be faithful to principles and let God worry about effectiveness.

I would challenge you to look at what Romney says now. It's true in the past he has certainly had some problematic positions vis a vis Gay marriage and abortion, what is he saying now? I am not making an argument for equivalence, but Saul before he was Paul, violently opposed the church. Is it not possible he has had a conversion? The church could support Obamacare if it had the Hyde amendment in its official language, I don't think it would be a good thing, but Obamacare is not intrinsically evil in and of itself, it's h fact he Hyde language is absent..
Ask some simple questions:
What did Romney do to stop abortion or the taxpayer funding of abortion/contraception/abortifacients?
What did Romney do to stop the legalization of sodomy?
What did Romney do to stop anti-Catholic legislation?
St. Paul publicly repented of his actions as Saul.
Has Romney ever publicly repented of any of his present flip-flops?
He talks the talk, now, but he doesn't walk the walk. We can and must judge a person's actions--we can't judge the soul. Actions truly do speak louder than words.
Ezechiel 3:17-20 Son of man, I have made thee a watchman to the house of Israel: and thou shalt hear the word out of my mouth, and shalt tell it them from me. If, when I say to the wicked, Thou shalt surely die: thou declare it not to him, nor speak to him, that he may be converted from his wicked way, and live: the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but I will require his blood at thy hand. But if thou give warning to the wicked, and he be not converted from his wickedness, and from his evil way: he indeed shall die in his iniquity, but thou hast delivered thy soul. Moreover if the just man shall turn away from his justice, and shall commit iniquity: I will lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die, because thou hast not given him warning: he shall die in his sin, and his justices which he hath done, shall not be remembered: but I will require his blood at thy hand. But if thou warn the just man, that the just may not sin, and he doth not sin: living he shall live, because thou hast warned him, and thou hast delivered thy soul.
Catholic votes have always come cheap in the US of A.
Out of curiosity, I looked up the presidential tickets for the past few hundred years and found that Ryan is the fourth vp candidate on a major ticket to come from Wisconsin:
- Emil Seidel, mayor of Milwaukee, ran on the Socialist ticket in 1912 with
Eugene V. Debs.
- George A. Nelson, farmer from Polk County and state assembly rep, ran on the Socialist ticket in 1936 with Norman Thomas.
- Patrick Joseph Lucey, governor of Wisconsin, ran on an independent ticket in 1980 with John Anderson.
And then, of course, we've only had LaFollette as a presidential candidate (Progressive Party) in 1924. If you count UW-Madison alums, we have a few more in both presidential and vp, but we need some more Badger representing. What are you doing in 2020?
We were socialist before it was cool, LOL! I was wondering the same thing, thanks for looking it up!
It is odd that the party that was born in Wisconsin has never submitted a Sconnie on a presidential ticket.
Well, LaFollette wanted to run Republican, but he was beaten out by Roosevelt (the awesome one, not FDR). Sorry, Fighting Bob, but "Big Stick" Teddy's just a little cooler.
