Green Bay Diocese creates Department of New Evangelization

For Julianne Stanz, joy is at the heart of her ministry. It guided her as director of young adult ministry for the Diocese of Green Bay and later as diocesan director of adult faith formation. "The big characteristic of my ministry — and also my faith life — is joy," said Stanz. "It's not about scaring people away or pointing out things that they are doing. It's about living as Christ would like us to live but in a happy, joyful way." [... hmm, we hear it a lot, save the world by being joyful(.  But at some point there has to be an element of education, right?  If only 30% of Catholics believe in the Real Presence at some point they need to learn the truth. ]

Joy will now help Stanz as she undertakes a new role as director of the newly created diocesan Department of New Evangelization. Announcement of the new department was made by Deacon Tim Reilly, general director of the Diocesan Curia, in letter to diocesan staff Dec. 12

According to Deacon Reilly, formation of the Department of Evangelization was a result of Bishop David Ricken's desire to give greater attention to the new evangelization. "As a result, bishop has approved a realignment of some of the diocesan departments so that we can give more intentional support to working with the parishes and the general population regarding the new evangelization," wrote Deacon Reilly.

Seems to be becoming popular to create this department.  Not too long ago, the Diocese of Winona did the same thing.  Raymond de Souza has been doing a great job, travels to every parish in the diocese giving talks, training local people at the parish. Bp. Morlino gets it right, there is no New Evangelization without beauty and without truth.

OK, I'll be first to say it.

If she had been doing her job as director of young adult and adult formation all these years, then a "New Evangelization" would hardly be necessary, would it?

They'd already be properly formed and evangelized. New title; same old stuff.

Boy, could we use this at the North side parishes of Sheboygan. That is, if the Arch. actually wants these parishes to continue. I am inclined to think the Arch. would like to close at least one of the 3 Northside parishes, and not admit its role in the demise of the Sheboygan NOrthside Catholic Community, or what is left of it.

Thank you so much Badger Catholic for highlighting our new department in your blog. Bishop Ricken has wisely realigned the work of several departments to create this new department. Previously I worked in the Department of Education and through Christ and His Blessed Mother our work bore much fruit. Joy has and will be a characteristic of my work. For a great article on the role joy plays in the work of the new evangelization I would encourage you to read http://www.catholicnews.com/data/stories/cns/1205340.htm. My email is jstanz@gbdioc.org if you have any questions!

Thank you Badger Catholic for highlighting the work of the newly created department of new evangelization for the Diocese of Green Bay. I am humbled and blessed to serve the Church in this role as I was when I worked in the Department of Education. Bishop Ricken is a holy and wise shepherd and we are blessed to have such a wonderful Bishop.
Last year, through programming from my office we registered over 2,000 Catholics for a number of catechetical programs in our Diocese. For those that know me, then they will also know that the word JOY fits my personality and my approach to ministry. A great article on how joy is a key to the new evangelization can be found here: http://www.catholicnews.com/data/stories/cns/1205340.htm

Blessings to you Julianne!

Unfortunately, I left out my parenthetical above, but I meant to say joy is necessary for the new evangelization but that it wasn't mutually exclusive with education, that they were part of the same mission. I'm sure you agree obviously with your background in education. We pray for your success.
