Question: What would happen if an American were elected pope?

I'm not sure.    Do we start ringing bells or something?  Can I get a ding dong?  I just mean right away, I know what will happen in the media, etc.  But wadda we do?  I'd hate to be the only church in Wisconsin not ringing.  Well, I imagine the FSPA in La Crosse wouldn't ring their bells, but the diocesan churches should though I would think.  Italians are probably the only ones who know the protocol here.  I've told others, if it happened, I leave work, go pray, then go directly to Bodegas for beer.  I expect to see you all there.

I'm not trying to speculate here, but just wondering what is supposed to be done regardless of the man's home country.  Poland went crazy some years ago.

Honestly, what is the tradition?

Let's put it this way: When the Habemus Papam is sung, if it is Raymond Leo Burke who walks out dressed in white, then I hope the Lord will forgive me for abandoning Lenten penance to celebrate for a day or two...

Much as I would love to see Cdl. Burke as our next Pope, I fear it is a very remote possibility - but I would be happy to be proven wrong!

So a trip to the Bodega should not be ruled out - for 'drowning sorrows' if nothing else...

True dat Michael. If Cardinal Burke is the Pope I'm going to celebrate for a couple of days! Then I'm going to go buy a bunker, and some can goods, maybe a generator, definetly bottled water. Cause the Church in America will likely split within a week, and I imagine the country not soon after. (I'm only half joking.)

* I meant "definitely." Please pardon my poor spelling. I'm from Missouri.

I don't know if I can go to the Bodega anymore...they openly support pro-death politicians.

Then how are we supposed to convert them?

Mass will be celebrated in the Pauline Chapel at 8:15am (2:15am Central Time)

The Conclave will resume at 9:30am tomorrow (Rome time); 3:30am CDT. Two ballots are allowed from then until around noon (6am CDT).

Then the Cardinals will break for lunch and prayer, resuming again at 4pm (10am CDT) until around 7pm (1pm CDT).

We convert them by whispering sweet nothings to the bartender about the intricate relationship between Catholics and beer, we lambast the protestant Reinheitsgebot and its resulting bastardization of beer, we sing joyous folk songs together on joyous occasions and recite moving poetry together on sad occasions, we wax philosophical and theological about the Vicar of Christ on earth and the rebuilding of Christendom, we tell the pro-death politicians not to darken the doorways of Bodega's but if they're willing to reconsider their position, we might buy them a (Catholic) beer or two. And if they're not and flaunt their stance, we might have a word or two with them outside. In other words, we covert them by being Catholics, not protestants.

How is the Reinheitsgebot protestant? It was enacted by Duke William IV of Bavaria, of the House of Wittelsbach, a very Catholic dynasty. William IV is also notable for being the first Bavarian leader to ban Luther's heretical works within his duchy.

Protestant. Ha!
