Morlino seemed especially loose and candid during an afternoon press conference Wednesday. After noting he was “a bit flabbergasted” by the cardinals’ choice, since Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio was not on most people’s radar, Morlino said even Bergoglio seemed “a little shell-shocked” when he was introduced as Pope Francis. “He really did have the look on his face saying, ‘How could this be happening? I just came here to vote.’” In responding to a question on whether he foresees any major changes under Francis, Morlino said there are certain things in the Catholic church that can’t be changed. “There are certain matters in the church, certain matters of doctrine, where the pope has no authority to make changes,” Morlino said, naming the church’s teachings on abortion and female ordination as two. Francis is “a very intelligent, Jesuit pope” and knows where he has authority and where he doesn’t, Morlino said. “If he simply doesn’t have the authority to change something, it just slows the church down on her way to holiness to keep insisting that things that cannot be changed, change,” he said.
Erickson failed to mention the fact that Morlino is a former Jesuit himself, but made room for a Call to Action quote in his print article. No video interviews for Bps Callahan or Christensen.  Okay someone said there are WKBT8 videos, but I could not find them.
