What's up in Superior

TBC could use at least one person posting on what's up in each Wisconsin diocese. So here's a prototype for a Superior, if not superior, news post.

From the Chancery

Chancery Bulletin - August 2014, news includes "A new Diocesan website is being developed. It is expected to be launched this month."

In the Superior Catholic Herald

Road to permanent diaconate, three permanent deacons were to be ordained this past Sunday

Barbara Ailport’s faith, fortitude shaped by life experiences, by Anita Draper, on the 2014 recipient of the Pax Christi award from the Superior Diocesan Council of Catholic Women

As he leaves Chetek, Fr. Kissling praises goodness of parishioners, by Anita Draper. Retired since 1997, though helping since at his local parish, he's returning to his native Iowa.

Around the Parishes and Schools

Changing Saint Joseph (La Pointe) Status from Parish to Mission, Superior Diocese News. (We heard Bishop Christensen's statement read at a Sunday vigil communion service while there on vacation.)

Lay Organizations

WWMD-LP (95.5 FM), according to Wikipedia, "is a radio station broadcasting a religious format. Licensed to Ashland, Wisconsin, USA, the station is currently owned by Holy Family Radio Association."

From the Archives

Short Ancient and Recent History of the Diocese of Superior, including "On Oct. 1, 1665, Fr. Claude Jean Allouez, S.J. arrived on Chequamegon Bay, La Pointe, and established the mission of the Holy Spirit. This was the first Catholic church/chapel anywhere on the North American continent north of New Mexico and west of Lake Huron." (The statement from Bishop Christensen about the status of St. Joseph's noted La Pointe was the site of the first Christian worship in what is now Wisconsin.)
