The Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help unveiled a statue honoring a World War II veteran who credits his faith for his safe return home.

Just north of Green Bay in Champion, Lieutenant Edwin Gerlikowski was honored for his bravery.

Father Peter Stryker with the church says Gerlikowski was a frequent visitor to the church.

"He would often come here to the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help to pray for his family, his friends, and for peace in the world" Stryker said.

"When it came time to enter World War II, he asked his mother to come here every Tuesday to pray for him while he was overseas."
