MADISON -- When the Wisconsin Badger football team travels to Indianapolis for the Big Ten Championship Game on December 2, they will take with them a perfect 12-0 record.

Accompanying them will be Msgr. Michael Burke -- better known as Father Mike to the coaches and players. He has been the team’s chaplain for 40 years.

Dates back to seminary training camp

He began working with the team when he was on the faculty of Madison’s Holy Name Seminary. The Badgers used the seminary fields and facilities for their summer training camp for many years.

Father Mike was a faculty member, rector, and vocation director during the years from 1977 until the closing of the seminary in 1995.

He remembers the training camps well. “The team was usually at the seminary for over three weeks,” he recalled. “They were locked in and had to stay there the entire time. They certainly got focused, since there were no distractions.”

Wisconsin-Notre Dame football series at Soldier Field and Lambeau Field appears imminent

CHICAGO – The idea of Wisconsin facing Notre Dame has intrigued Badgers fans, and several years ago school officials began looking at a potential matchup.

Nothing came to fruition, but Monday both UW head coach Paul Chryst at Big Ten media day and Packers President Mark Murphy at the shareholders meeting in Green Bay confirmed a Chicago Tribune report that discussions are again being held.

The series would be held at Lambeau Field and Soldier Field, and Murphy said he expects an announcement soon.

I suspect I will be making several wagers on these games....  I wish there was a way to bet on which team has more practicing Catholics.

Wisconsin OL Ryan Ramczyk made right choice for football over welding

MADISON, Wis. -- One of the best stories in college football is a 6-foot-6, 314-pound offensive lineman who attended four schools before ever seriously considering Division I football. He is someone who quit the sport and thought he might become a welder or a law enforcement member. He is an absolute force who has risen from obscurity into one of the superior players at his position in the country.

He is Wisconsin left tackle Ryan Ramczyk. And if you do not yet know the name, you soon will. Ten weeks ago, Ramczyk (pronounced RAM-check), was preparing to play the first FBS game of his college career. Now, many NFL scouts believe he is a bona fide late first-round draft pick this spring -- if he decides to leave school a year early.

It is a path Ramczyk can only describe as "crazy."

"I don't know if you can find too many guys that have gone to four other schools before they end up here," he said.

Former Badgers FB standout visits home parish in Darlington, encourages development of God given talents

Alex Erickson, former Wisconsin Badger football player, newly signed with the Cincinnati Bengals, visited Holy Rosary School in Darlington recently.

Erickson is a member of Holy Rosary Parish and a graduate of the Darlington Public Schools.

The former wide receiver for the Badgers gave a talk to the students and shared the role that faith played before and after each Badger game.

He also encouraged the children to develop the talents that God has given them by exploring different opportunities in sports or other areas of their lives. He reminded them not to be discouraged or give up when things do not come easily to them.

Well, that was interesting

If you are wondering what this is all about, here's the story.

I'm not sure how, but I think this must somehow be Virginia's fault.
