continue at MilCathHeraldApproximately 35 people filled the reception area of Women’s Care Center Saturday night to celebrate the recent acquisition of a new, state-of-the art ultrasound machine. The center, at 1441 N. Farwell Ave., now has the capability to offer much more detailed images, and at earlier stages in the pregnancy.
The purchase was made possible by donations from area Knights of Columbus councils, whose members have been helping out since the founding of the center in June 2010.

The evening began with Mass celebrated by Archbishop Jerome E. Listecki. Echoing the theme of a celebration, Archbishop Listecki reminded those in attendance that they are doing God’s work. “A picture is worth a thousand words,” he said. “Think about how many lives will be saved by pictures taken here.” With a nod toward Affiliated Heath Services across the street, Archbishop Listecki said the services offered by Women’s Care Center “show the importance of protecting life, especially the most vulnerable among us.”

Madison Ald. Lisa Subeck had written an open letter to Metcalfe rejecting an offer to participate in the 34-year-old Memorial Weekend event as a “celebrity cashier” because of a scheduled speech by Bob Lenz, a motivational Christian speaker who is deeply involved in Save the Storks, an anti-abortion movement. The organization sponsors “Stork Buses,” vehicles which park in front of abortion clinics offering ultrasound exams in an effort to divert women from terminating pregnancies.
Although Lenz told the Wisconsin State Journal that his talk would not focus on abortion, instead touching on general Christian themes, Subeck, the head of progressive group United Wisconsin and one of two Democrats running for an open state Assembly district on Madison’s west side, said the two could not be separated given Lenz’s prominent role in anti-abortion activism.
Obviously the tie between suicide and abortion is well known, not good press for NARAL.

The Wisconsin state senate approved a bill this morning that would allow women considering an abortion a chance to see an ultrasound of their baby beforehand. In other states with similar laws on the books, abortions have declined as women choose life for their baby.continue at LifeNews
After the vote, Wisconsin Right to Life hailed passage of Senate Bill 206 (Sonya’s Law) in the State Senate.
“Wisconsin Right to Life is deeply appreciative to Senator Mary Lazich for her tremendous leadership on this issue and to the members of the State Senate who voted for this important legislation,” said Susan Armacost, Legislative Director for Wisconsin Right to Life.
I'm not sure if this will be enforced since Wisconsin abortion facilities are not subject to health inspections anyway, unless someone goes under cover.

No. It is up to the woman to choose the type of ultrasound she prefers, after all options are explained to her. The actual language in the law states:
“…perform an obstetric ultrasound on the pregnant woman, using whichever transducer the woman chooses after the options have been explained to her.”

"The ultrasound is the gold standard of medical decision-making," Sen. Mary Lazich (R-New Berlin) said during her testimony Wednesday before the Senate Health and Human Services Committee. "The intent of the legislation is to strengthen the informed-consent law."
"There are a lot of women that regret their abortion," she said, adding that a woman who sees the ultrasound images might change her mind about whether to terminate her pregnancy.
Planned Parenthood's Nicole Safar said the legislation threatened to take the state back 50 years.
"The state mandating what a doctor has to tell a patient and what a doctor physically has to do to a patient is inappropriate," [you mean like explaining the side effects of drugs??] Safar said. "It's not your role." [Now wait a second, how can someone support Obamacare which mandates everything to doctors, and then say that the government cannot mandate ultrasounds on the ground that it's not the government's role? I'm surprised Safar had such a weak retort, I can think of a handful of excuses that play better than it's not the state's role]
The bill was referred to as "Sonya's law" after a woman who changed her mind about having an abortion after seeing her fetus on an ultrasound. Lazich and Rep. Pat Strachota (R-West Bend) are co-authors of the bill.
Testimony on the bill before the Senate committee came as the Assembly Health Committee acted on two other abortion bills. One would allow religious institutions to remove contraception and abortion coverage from their health insurance plans. The other would outlaw abortions based on the sex of the fetus. Both passed the Assembly committee 7-4, with all Republicans in favor and all Democrats against.
I think Sonya's Law is WRTL but it's not mentioned in the article. On the side note for protection for "religious institutions," does anyone know who that is?
I have literally had some type of event to attend in the evening all but maybe 3 days over the past 4 weeks. So I'm sure I'm missing stuff. Thanks to those of you who shot me emails, I really do appreciate it. It looks like I have two days "off" in the next week, would love to get caught up.
