Contraception in Wisconsin, and the rally cry to cafeteria Catholics

First we have this article by a MJS columnist, who argues that more strict abortion laws means more abortions. ....I'll pick it apart some other time, but as any pure capitalist like Pimentel, he hates the poor and sees them as nothing more than a drag on society.... especially their children.  And if I didn't know any better, I'd say he has stock in Pfizer.
I direct this appeal mostly to those who object to abortion - on whatever grounds - but who might realize this is not a zero-sum game. They know that restricting comprehensive sex ed and access to birth control is counterproductive to the goal of making abortion rare. These good people have much in common in this regard with those Rush Limbaugh vilifies as Feminazis.

Yes, I'm talking about you so-called cafeteria Catholics, others who value their faith but don't necessarily walk in lock step and then those troubled by abortion quite aside from faith. Your gift is that you realize that common sense, faith and objections to abortion need not be canceling propositions. Legislators set to launch assaults on reproductive rights will make a pretense of representing you.

Disabuse them of that notion. Let them know that you know that a key part of eliminating abortion is making sure those pregnancies don't occur at all. Let them know that ideology and common sense needn't be mutually exclusive propositions.
Ladies and Gentlemen, the elephant in the room in the pro-life movement; contraception.   Groups like Wisconsin Right to Life support contraception.  This is the same WRTL group that has dioceses in Wisconsin directly donating them money and running fundraisers for them.  Now that's not to say that WRTL is all bad.  But clearly the group is suspect.  Well, when I get some time it would be worth digging into this.

Responding today in MJS is Peggy Hill from Pro-Life Wisconsin.  Read the whole thing there. Here's the highlights.
Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, the state's leading abortion provider, advocates increased access to birth control and the morning-after pill to curtail the rise in abortion. It is even lobbying for free birth control as basic health care under Obamacare. This would only fuel an already out-of-control epidemic of sexual promiscuity, STDs, teen pregnancies and, of course, abortion.

In fact, the growing dependence on, and widespread availability of, pre-implantation abortifacient birth control has resulted in an increased demand for post-implantation chemical abortions. When birth control and the morning-after pill fail to eliminate the "problem," post-implantation chemical abortion (RU-486) is seen as a speedy, convenient "solution."

There is now a new form of birth control named Ella that contains ulipristal acetate, an embryo-lethal chemical identical to the one found in mifepristone, the active ingredient in RU-486. Billed as an "emergency contraceptive," Ella is recommended for use up to five days after intercourse.

However, ulipristal acetate can cause a post-implantation chemical abortion. Ulipristal can be detected in reproductive tissue up to two weeks after ingestion. Clearly, there is no separation between hormonal birth control and abortion. The current trend toward chemical abortion is concrete proof that there is no room in the battle against abortion for neutrality on birth control.

Pro-Life Wisconsin's lonely battle against the abortion industry's birth control agenda is increasingly intense at the state Capitol. We are forced by Planned Parenthood to lobby against government-funded birth control, coerced insurance coverage of contraceptives and forced contraception education and instruction in our public schools. Accordingly, Pro-Life Wisconsin's 2011-'12 legislative agenda includes, in part, the following items:

• Eliminating state "family planning" funding for organizations (including Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin) that perform or refer for abortion.

• Enacting comprehensive conscience protections for all individual health care providers, including pharmacists.

• Repealing the new sexual education law that forces contraception education and instruction into public school human growth and development programs.

It all starts with the contraceptive mentality, which leads to the use of birth control, which leads to a dependence on abortion, especially chemical abortion, as backup contraception. The pro-life community instinctively knows this, but very few of us have the courage to say it and do something about it.

Regardless, Pro-Life Wisconsin will endeavor to turn back the rising chemical abortion tide and the entire contraceptive/abortion mentality.
I could not have said it better myself.  I can't say it enough, pray for Pro-Life Wisconsin every day, and if you can donate to this great group, please do!

It makes no sense to be anti-abortion and pro-contraception. Humanae Vitae was prophetic in observing the correlation between the two. The contraceptive mentality sets up a culture to embrace the abortive mentality, so a group that accepts the contraceptive lie as a compromise will be counterproductive in its efforts.

WHO ARE "We the People?" How can we "secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and for our posterity" if our posterity is not secured in law? "Roe" is a Marxist scheme and Planned Barrenhood is a criminal enterprise. REPEAL ROE NOW !
