Christian School Includes Preborn in Ornament Submissions for the Wisconsin Capitol "Holiday" Tree

This year the Wisconsin Capitol Christmas Tree was dubbed the “Holiday Tree” by Governor Tony Evers, and on Friday, November 8, 2019 Evers announced that the theme of the tree would be “Celebrate Science.” Wisconsin students were asked to create themed ornaments for the tree and send them to the capitol to be displayed throughout the season. One local Christian school got creative.

Bethlehem Lutheran School in Sheboygan, Wisconsin decided to send a clear message to the governor about the true meaning of the season and science no less. In a Facebook post on Sunday, December 8th, Bethlehem Lutheran School displayed their creations, saying, “The fifth and sixth graders helped create some science and faith based ornaments for the Capitol Tree this year. Theirs were among thousands from other schools throughout the state. If you’re in Madison, be sure to check it out, it’s pretty awesome!”

Pro-Life Wisconsin Disheartened by Rising Abortion Numbers in Wisconsin

Madison, WI - On December 11, 2018, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services released Reported Induced Abortions in Wisconsin 2017, an annual publication of statistics on abortions performed in Wisconsin. Abortions in Wisconsin increased by 3.7% for the 2017 reporting year over 2016. Pro-Life Wisconsin State Director Dan Miller offered the following comments:

“We must explore new ways to end abortion, but we will never take our hand off the plow and we will never look back. The pro-life movement is such a unique battleground for social justice – a battle inside the womb. It is not our rights that we are defending, but those who are utterly defenseless and always innocent. Let us recommit to making abortion illegal and unthinkable.

Wisconsin Senate Passes Bill Ending Abortion Coverage for State Employees

Madison, WI – On an 18-14 vote last night, the Wisconsin Senate passed legislation to prohibit elective abortion coverage in Wisconsin’s public health insurance plans. Having passed the Wisconsin Assembly last November, Assembly Bill (AB) 128 now heads to Governor Walker for his expected signature. If AB 128 becomes law, Wisconsin taxpayers would no longer pay for state employees’ abortions.

“Pro-Life Wisconsin thanks Senate Republicans for persevering in their ongoing effort to end taxpayer funding of abortion in our state,” said Matt Sande, PLW Legislative Director. “We especially thank the bill’s authors, Senator Dave Craig and Representatives André Jacque, Ron Tusler and Janel Brandtjen.”

Abortion - the direct, intentional killing of a preborn child - is not health care. In poll after poll, Americans overwhelmingly say they oppose taxpayer-funded abortion. Politico and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health conducted a poll in September 2016 showing that a majority of likely voters, 58 percent, opposed the use of Medicaid funds to pay for abortion. Similarly, a July 2016 Marist poll found that 62 percent of Americans oppose taxpayer funding of abortion.

“We must fully end taxpayer funding of abortion in Wisconsin,” said Sande. “It’s bad enough that child killing is legal. At the very least, taxpayers should not be forced to fund it.”

Wisconsin Health Without Harm initiative pulled from committees without notice

The Heal Without Harm (HWH) Legislative Initiative – SB 423/AB 549 and SB 424/AB 550 (Sen. Terry Moulton, R-Chippewa Falls, and Rep. Joel Kleefisch, R-Oconomowoc) – would ban the sale and use of the body parts of aborted babies and instead encourage the donation of tissue for research from children who are stillborn or miscarried.

Without notice, AB 549 and AB 550 have been pulled from their previously assigned committees and put into the Committee on Assembly Organization.

The public has a right to know why these bills were moved and if the committee has any intention of sending them to the floor for a vote.

Please call the members of the Committee on Assembly Organization and ask them:

Why were AB 549 and AB 550 moved to this committee?
Does the committee intend to advance these bills so they can receive a floor vote?

There is precious little time left this legislative session for these bills to advance, so please take action now!

HWH Coalition Welcomes Introduction of AB 549 and AB 550 in the Wisconsin Assembly

The Heal Without Harm (HWH) Coalition, comprised of member organizations Pro-Life Wisconsin, Wisconsin Right to Life, Wisconsin Catholic Conference, and Wisconsin Family Action, welcomes the introduction of AB 549 and AB 550.

These two complementary bills, the Fetal Remains Respect Act (SB 423/AB 549) and the Unborn Child Disposition and Anatomical Gift Act (SB 424/AB 550), authored by Sen. Terry Moulton (R-Chippewa Falls) and Rep. Joel Kleefisch (R-Oconomowoc), make up the Heal Without Harm Legislative Initiative. This Initiative seeks to demonstrate respect for unborn children by 1) outlawing the future exploitation of aborted children for fetal body parts (defined as tissue, organ or other part of an aborted unborn child); and 2) providing scientists with ethical sources of fetal tissue.

Wisconsin has an extraordinary opportunity to lead the nation by championing research that is ethical, innovative, and effective. We look forward to a thoughtful public debate on these bills at a public hearing and their enactment into law.

WI Budget Committee Requires Audit of Planned Parenthood, Other Medicaid Family Planning Providers

Madison – The Joint Committee on Finance (JFC) adopted a budget motion yesterday that would require the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) of the Department of Health Services (DHS) to conduct a comprehensive audit of all Medicaid family planning payments to Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin and other Wisconsin family planning providers from Jan. 1, 2013, to Dec. 31, 2016.

The motion directs proceeds from overpayments or incorrect payments resulting from the audit to be expended on various state budget items in the 2019-2021 biennium, including DHS fraud and error investigation and reduction efforts, public health aids, community aids, grants for community programs, and treatment services for child victims of sex trafficking.

Planned Parenthood Closing in Sheboygan - Prayers Answered!

According to a My Sheboygan article, Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin announced their plans to close their Sheboygan office.

The closure will take effect on Thursday, August 17th, 2017, the article states.

Here’s how I see what happened. In 2014, the faithful of the Sheboygan area gathered to pray outside this facility with 40 Days for Life. They took their pro-life convictions and exercised their First Amendment free speech rights in a public forum.

The prayer spurred the community to action. Not long after the 40 Days for Life campaign, the pro-life community of Sheboygan identified a building out of which they could operate a pregnancy resource center. That building is now the home of Anchor of Hope Health Center, located at 703 N 9th Street in Sheboygan – just 1.3 miles away from Planned Parenthood’s soon to be vacated office. Prayer and action.

I spoke with Anchor of Hope Health Center’s Executive Director, Jacky Drewry, about the good news. “It really reminds me of Romans 2:6-7 - Who will render to every man according to his works. To them indeed, who according to patience in good work, seek glory and honor and incorruption, eternal life.” Drewry continued, “It’s so humbling. We walk on the shoulders of those that have gone before us. Their prayers – our prayers, have been answered.”

Drewry mentioned the providence of all of it. “We have expanded our services to include STI testing & treatment, with a formal announcement to the public of a Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting on August 8th along with an open house. We know this means we will be busier than ever.”

Heal Without Harm legislative initiative introduced

On Thursday, March 9th, 2017, State Sen. Terry Moulton and State Rep. Joel Kleefisch, along with Sens. Vukmir, Testin, Stroebel, Craig and Nass and Rep. Bernier, introduced the Heal Without Harm Legislative Initiative.

This package of two complementary bills, the Fetal Remains Respect Act and the Unborn Child Disposition and Anatomical Gift Act, seeks to demonstrate respect for unborn children by 1) outlawing the future exploitation of aborted children for fetal body parts (defined as tissue, organ or another part of an aborted unborn child); and 2) providing families, doctors and scientists with ethical sources of fetal tissue.

The Fetal Remains Respect Act prohibits the trade and use of fetal tissue derived from the intentional taking of a human life after Jan. 1, 2017.

The Unborn Child Disposition and Anatomical Gift Act requires health care facilities to inform parents of the ability to offer an anatomical gift from their stillborn or miscarried child.

Wisconsin administration approves "Choose Life" license plate

Last week, Choose Life Wisconsin Inc. announced it is now an authorized group with the Department of Motor Vehicles for the purpose of requesting a specialty license plate. The Choose Life Wisconsin license plate originated with Pro-Life Wisconsin and Wisconsin Family Action partnering on the idea and working together throughout the long administrative and legislative process.

“The choose life plate has been almost ten years in the making,” Julaine Appling, Choose Life Wisconsin president, said. “We are excited that within the next eight to twelve months, Wisconsin pro-life citizens will be able to purchase a beautiful license plate that expresses their views on life while also directly helping our state’s life-saving, woman-helping pregnancy resource centers.”

Choose Life plates are now available in more than 30 states. Since the first plate was approved in Florida nearly 20 years ago, over $23 million has been raised nationwide to assist with adoption and other life-affirming educational work.

“We have experienced increasing demand for a ‘Choose Life’ license plate in Wisconsin over the last five years,” Matt Sande, Choose Life Wisconsin vice-president, said. “We are confident the plate will sell quickly, and we are excited to open up a funding stream for Wisconsin’s pregnancy resource centers, which offer health services, adoption referrals, and in general help women in crisis pregnancies make life-saving choices.”

Don’t forget to vote in tomorrow’s fall primary election, Tuesday, Aug. 9. Let your pro-life voice be heard!

Please keep the following in mind as you vote:

The Wisconsin fall primary is a “closed” primary, meaning you can only vote for candidates in ONE party.

Near the top of your ballot, you’ll see the option to select a party. This selection ensures that your votes will only count in the party chosen.

Choosing a party serves as a safeguard, in case you accidentally select a candidate in another party.

If you choose to not select a party at the top of the ballot, and then cast votes for candidates in more than one party, your entire ballot will be invalidated.

Selecting a party does not limit you in the general election in November.

Please check in with voting officials at your polling place or the Government Accountablity Board if you have questions.

Pro Life WI: The Miracle on Farwell

It was a cold, Friday morning in Wisconsin. It was a day like any other on Farwell, except it was Good Friday, one of the holiest days of the year.

For years, Pro-Life Wisconsin has held a Good Friday Pro-Life Stations of the Cross at St. Rita’s Catholic Church – and then processed solemnly over to the abortion facility. It always draws a big crowd. That year was no different. On April 22nd, 2011 there were about 125 persons present as we prayed in front of Affiliated Medical Services (AMS) for an end to abortion. Just as we were almost through, a young man approached us from the crowd asking if we could pray just one more prayer. I looked to the State Director of Pro-Life Wisconsin (PLW), Peggy Hamill – and gave her one of my, “why not?” looks. He said it wouldn’t take more than seven minutes. He was prepared – and distributed copies of the prayer among the faithful pro-lifers. It was the Chaplet of the Holy Face of Jesus, which adores Jesus’ five senses using Psalm 67. Never having prayed it before, I asked him if he would lead the prayer – and he did.
