The Emperor is made a deacon

Kaiser (Caesar or Emperor) Franz I was the Duke of Lorraine, formerly an imperial territory, when he married the Holy Roman Empress Maria Theresia. She then made him Holy Roman Emperor and he is seen here in the coronation vestments and crown of the Emperor Charlemagne. He wears the imperial cope and the imperial stole as well as an imperial alb, all privileges of an emperor. At his coronation, the Emperor is made a deacon, reads the Gospel and serves the Pontifical mass.
Roman Christendom

Very interesting considering deacon-gate being discussed on the blogosphere.  I can only assume the emperors did not observe constancy.
