Green Bay food pantry declines Planned Parenthood donation, pro-abort bullying ensues

From Pro-Life Wisconsin:
Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin has been collecting food items at their PP locations; the food donations are theoretically being given to nearby food pantries. Have an abortion, donate a can of soup. Sounds like a deal.

One Green Bay food pantry — Paul’s Pantry — declined the Planned Parenthood donation because PPWI is an abortion provider. (And maybe they didn’t want IUD cookies or aborted fetus cookies? Just a thought.)

And because pro-aborts are always so shocked when a person exercises their free choice and disagrees with their world view, name calling and Jesus comparisons ensued:

The Daily Kos picked up the “news” and took it one step further, encouraging harrassment and intimidation (a far cry from pro-lifers’ attempts to be courteous when boycotting, hmmm):

This type of reaction is exactly what happened when Komen announced earlier this week that Planned Parenthood was no longer eligible for receiving grants from the organization. So much for civilized discourse. Pretty sure the fate of abortion doesn't hinge on a food pantry turning down PP's donation, but it does mean people are cognizant of what PP does -- kill babies.

THANK YOU to Paul’s Pantry for exercising CHOICE and refusing Planned Parenthood.

Is this the ONLY food pantry in Green Bay? If they are so worried about the 'hungry' in their area, why aren't they using their energy getting the food TO the hungry, instead of harassing Paul's Pantry?

Actually-at that Daily Kos site, it appeared it was more a matter of the Pantry not sending its own truck over to the clinic. PP was welcome to bring the items over themselves. Guess PP would rather 'satisfy their own personal politics' than feed the hungry.

Haha. I have heard that Paul's Pantry is associated or affiliated with the local St. Vincent de Paul.

Paul's may not be the only food pantry in Green Bay but it appears it is the largest food pantry. This may also have been a "gotcha" move on Planned Parenthood's part, as a way to "out" Paul's Pantry as -- gasp! -- having moral and ethical standards.

Some interesting things I found when going through the "About Us" portion of their website:
- Because Paul's Pantry operates without government funding, an ecumenical prayer can be said each day, together by recipient and non-recipient volunteers prior to the distribution of food to the needy. We give thanks for our benefactors, our food suppliers, and for our many volunteers.
- The pantry receives no federal, state or local tax revenue, nor does it receive any monies from the Hunger Task Force, or United Way.

Planned Parenthood is clearly attacking on all fronts. The HHS mandate, the GOP's refusal to defund PP, Komen's reversal, etc.

I imagine we'll see calls for greater regulation or takeover of food pantries.

For what it's worth, I emailed my thanks to Paul's and got a very kind note back from the executive director:

Thank you so much Steve for the support,

All I told the young lady from Planned Parenthood was that I couldn’t send a truck to pick-up, and gave her a list of other food pantries that might want to pick-up, I gave her no reason at all and she didn’t ask why.

Soon after I started receiving the hate email and phone calls. I politely explained to callers that although we are non-denominational in regards to those we serve, we are a Catholic organization who shares a board of directors with our sister organization, St. Vincent de Paul.

We adhere to the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church and to the Rule of St. Vincent de Paul. I also explained our Gift Acceptance Policy and how acceptance of the donation would compromise our core values and possibly damage the reputation of Paul’s Pantry.

Please pass the word, our volunteers and staff could use lots of prayers and messages of support.

If the backlash is leaving messages, I say we do the same, but with a positive and supportive spin! The phone number off of their site is 920-433-0343.
