I wonder if Cardinal Burke will give up the cappa magna and other extreme trappings of office now that Pope Francis is setting a different approach to such things.

I recommend Sean Tribe's article over at New Liturgical Movement.

http://www.newliturgicalmovement.org/2013/03/some-liturgical-thoughts-for-nlm.html

"Benedict, while the "father of the new liturgical movement" (in my estimation at any rate), is not the new liturgical movement; as such the new liturgical movement does not die with the end of his papacy."

And for those of you who don't know the Cardinal, he never wears any of the traditional Cardinal vestments(like the cappa magna) at the Shrine in La Crosse. But when he is asked by those religious orders which take a traditional approach to liturgy, he obliges.

And what would be the religious order requesting the Copa Magna for former diocesan functions in St. Louis? There were no religious ordainandi that I can remember. It would seem that that would have been a decision up to the discretion of the Bishop. And the pictures of Cardinal Burke with a Gallero? That being said, I do think he is a holy and prayerful man, his eminence just has an unusual interest for defunct liturgical fashions. It's cool; Retro is in. ;)

Agreed, not to say he's not interested but for those who thing he's a pompous man are sorely mistaken.
