We are told by our speakers, all the time, that they have never seen anything like the AOTM. We live up to our reputation to be the largest monthly gathering of men anywhere in the western hemisphere. Please donate so we may bring you more AOTM events here in South St. Paul and more debates over the internet. The cost of our events has been continually on the rise. From additional insurance, rental fees, and kitchen equipment breaking down there is little money left for getting ourselves the tech equipment needed to bring these events to you via the internet. Besides all those expenses the web site and related services, mass email marketing services and audio and video tech have been donated for years and now AOTM needs to begin to pay for these tools. We ask all of you to please make a donation of $5 or more. We do not need much. In the past 15 years of AOTM we have never made a pledge for money in our email blast or on our web site (At least that I can remember). We have done a lot with very little and if you appreciate what we do please help us out. We would like to reach a goal of $7K. Be sure, no one here receives a cent for what they do. After long deliberation I have decided to do a special showing of the two AOTM debates above. We are currently doing some work to the videos and they should be done sometime later this week. I do not think that we will be putting these up on Youtube, but rather on our website. I will be sending out an announcement when they are up on the site. I would ask that all make a donation of at least $5 before watching these videos. The cost of our events has been continually on the rise. Raymond Leo Burke met in La Crosse, Wisconsin, this weekend and spoke on marriage, the family and the crisis in the Church, among other topics. In the keynote address, Cdl. Burke, former Prefect of the Apostolic Signatura and current patron of the Sovereign Order of Malta, warned the packed basilica of major problems inside and outside the Church. And it's the weakness crippling the Church, says Cdl. Burke, that ends up harming the rest of society.
He took last year's Extraordinary Synod on the Family as the defining moment when the crisis within the Church became undeniable. He believes the Synod took issues that the Church has always spoken on with clarity and handled them — sometimes erroneously — with no consistent reference to Church Tradition or the Magisterium. Especially telling, says Cdl. Burke, is the way the Synod's discussions overlooked the evil in relationships featuring such grave sins as adultery, premarital cohabitation and sodomy.

Michael Matt sits down with Kent Wuchterl (founder of the "Argument of the Month Club), about the AOTM's first debate of the year, between Mark Shea and Michael Voris. Question is, who won the cage match?

It's almost been a week but here's some photos and a recap.
This was my first trip to Argument of the Month. I really enjoyed it. The men were just rowdy enough, and I've spent enough of my life in Minnesota to enjoy Grain Belt. By the end of the night there were 600+ men in attendance. Oh, I got to meet Ray Marshall, but utterly failed to get a picture!
It was Oktoberfest at AOTM, so the night started early outside with refreshments.

Shea successfully defending the "gay saint issue" although Voris gave a very fair accusation I thought(once the session is available online I'd like to know what you think, the man was chaste). The second session wasn't really a debate per se, not really a winner. Voris better in the second session, all four guys actually were good in the second session. At some point during the night one of the attendees went up to Shea and called him "a lying piece of shit." Also a couple guys interrupting during the debate for some reason(reasons unclear... maybe even to them). Probably the winner of the night I thought was Michael Matt(and "the terrorist" for a phenomenal meal). I was slightly familiar with him(Matt) prior to the night, but I was thoroughly impressed by the end.
I would have liked to see Dale Ahlquist moderate(he was there in Shea's corner). I also would have liked to see either men asked tough questions, like asking Shea if "Traditional Catholicism" as it is understood in the blogosphere(or by Voris or in the liturgy) is something that leads people away from Christ. I also would have like to see Voris answer what Catholics are supposed to do(besides point out when bishops are behaving badly). He tended to only point out what was wrong but not what was right.
So me and Mr. T(my buddy) were talking afterwards. It almost seemed like what Voris might just do was ..... get this...... forgive Shea! I thought there was a chance he might go that route. He could have read the accounts on Shea's blog and simply stated that he would forgive him for all the offenses. It didn't happen but that would have been the Voris home run. He could have said he didn't feel the comments were fair but forgive the offenses.

The meal was just fantastic. If a restaurant served food this good, I would make a return visit.

I know he's trying to compliment the Cardinal, but "this comment could have been pulled out of a Vortex episode" comes off... in the wrong way. I don't mind Voris, but his best work is the in depth reports, like on the Rockefellers.

For the record, I think that Voris is a bit to optimistic here about the problems of the Church disappearing overnight. I find it hard to believe though that the media would not cover someone so clearly well suited for the office. They will not even call him divisive, just ignoring him... This fact makes me think they fear that it is a real possibility(or maybe they feel by mentioning Ratzinger last time around actually boosted his chances).

Argument of the Month ClubAfter a month off, the AOTM welcomes back Michael Voris on January 10, 2012 to kick off the New Year.
In all ages the faith is a battle and ours is no different. What makes these days particularly difficult is the confusion and disorientation so often present in those very places from which clarity and order should come. Even those who strive to be faithful Catholics can sincerely wonder whose example to follow. During particular troubled times in the history of the Church, the Italians are known to remark that "Peter is sleeping." Amidst scandals and dereliction of leadership, who could be faulted for asking the same question today?
It was said, at another troubled time in the soul Christendom, that "the men at arms will give battle and God will grant them victory." This requires, however, that men are willing to pick up their arms and fight. Our age is in need of Catholic action as much as any, but too few men are willing to take up the standard and proclaim the truth and put it into action. On January 10, 2012 we will tackle this weighty topic.
