Wisconsin administration approves "Choose Life" license plate

Last week, Choose Life Wisconsin Inc. announced it is now an authorized group with the Department of Motor Vehicles for the purpose of requesting a specialty license plate. The Choose Life Wisconsin license plate originated with Pro-Life Wisconsin and Wisconsin Family Action partnering on the idea and working together throughout the long administrative and legislative process.

“The choose life plate has been almost ten years in the making,” Julaine Appling, Choose Life Wisconsin president, said. “We are excited that within the next eight to twelve months, Wisconsin pro-life citizens will be able to purchase a beautiful license plate that expresses their views on life while also directly helping our state’s life-saving, woman-helping pregnancy resource centers.”

Choose Life plates are now available in more than 30 states. Since the first plate was approved in Florida nearly 20 years ago, over $23 million has been raised nationwide to assist with adoption and other life-affirming educational work.

“We have experienced increasing demand for a ‘Choose Life’ license plate in Wisconsin over the last five years,” Matt Sande, Choose Life Wisconsin vice-president, said. “We are confident the plate will sell quickly, and we are excited to open up a funding stream for Wisconsin’s pregnancy resource centers, which offer health services, adoption referrals, and in general help women in crisis pregnancies make life-saving choices.”

Appling: Marriage in Wisconsin: So What Now?

“So what now?” That’s the question we’re getting from citizens and the media across Wisconsin who are trying to process what the US Supreme Court’s decision regarding our marriage protection amendment means.

The US Supreme Court early Monday denied Wisconsin’s petition that requested that the high court review the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals decision from early in September that said our marriage amendment violates the US Constitution. The Supreme Court denied not only Wisconsin’s petition, but also those of four other states.

Judicially what happens when the US Supreme Court denies such a request is that the decision of the court that most recently acted on the case stands. In this instance, it’s the7th Circuit Court of Appeals, which, again, ruled against our amendment.

That means for all practical purposes clerks in Wisconsin can once again begin issuing marriage licenses to persons of the same sex. I say “once again” because they issued such licenses originally in the week between the original ruling by Judge Barbara Crabb and when she finally said a week later her ruling didn’t take effect until after all the appeals had been exhausted.

But this is only part of the story. Legal experts tell us that the US Supreme Court deciding not to take any of the 5 cases doesn't mean the end of the issue.

Wisconsin Family Council posts Wisconsin Marriage Declaration, sign to show support

On June 6, 2014, Federal Judge Barbara Crabb's ruled that Wisconsin's voter-approved Marriage Protection Amendment is unconstitutional. This single, arrogant, unelected, and unaccountable judge overruled the votes of more than 1.6 million Wisconsin citizens who in 2006 voted in favor of this amendment that defines and protects marriage in our state as the exclusive union of one man and one woman.

According to the US Constitution, the people and the states have the right to reserve and use for themselves any powers not specifically given to the federal government (10th Amendment). If there's any issue a state should be able to "self-determine" on, it's marriage--the foundational societal institution.

Wisconsin Family Council believes it's critical that "we the people" of the Great State of Wisconsin remind our Governor and our Attorney General, and everyone else for that matter, that there are thousands of citizens in this state--citizens who vote--for whom marriage and states' rights are very important issues. We believe this simple but powerful declaration makes a citizen's position abundantly clear.

Wis. Family Council releases "Wisconsin’s Cultural Indicators"

Wisconsin’s Cultural Indicators 2014 is the only document of its kind, giving statistical overview of Wisconsin, her values, and the impact on traditional families. When Wisconsin’s families are healthy, Wisconsin is healthy. When our state’s families are weak, struggling, and dependent on the government, that is sure to be reflected in the overall health of the state. The constitutionally required national ten-year census, most recently done in 2010, provides the cornerstone of much of this data. These statistics generally come from the Wisconsin and/or national government agencies responsible for tracking these indicators.
