I posted a while back on the only speculations I have. My thoughts haven't changed much. I think Msgr. Gilles 50% somebody else 50%. La Crosse has been without a bishop since November 2009, so about 5 months. Our last wait for then-bishop Listecki was about 12 months, (to be precise, Dec 2, 2003 to Dec 29, 2004). That seems a bit lengthy and I think the general expectation is an appointment much sooner than that.
The AmP Bishop Appointment Watch List
Tuesday is the traditional day for new Vatican appointments of bishops to dioceses in the United States. There is a higher-than-usual possibility that we’ll have a new bishop (or two) announced this Tuesday (or Wednesday). In order, these are the dioceses I think are most likely to have a replacement named soon:A good place to check-up on the current vacant & overdue dioceses is this page on my father’s website.
- Diocese of Springfield, IL - under a diocesan administrator since June of 2009, some buzz
- Archdiocese of Indianapolis, IN - Abp. Buechlein is in poor health, may have submitted his resignation
- Archdiocese of Miami - I blogged why last week
- Diocese of Lafayette, IN - Bp. Higi was to retire in August of 2008, but is still waiting to be relieved
- Diocese of La Crosse, WI – vacant since Bp. Listecki was appointed to Milwaukee last year
Have you heard any speculation about an arch/diocese about to receive a new head? Discuss in the comments or drop me a line!

Pray God, we will have a bishop soon.
I heard (from unnamed sources!) it might be July.
Let us pray.
Amen!
