"close associations between contraception and abortion."

I'm amazed how contraception has been painted as the bogeyman for absolutely all evil in the world, in this case, abortion.

This is not logical and its mystifying how few people question the reasoning.

Its high time that we realize that contraception is a symptom - not a cause!

Follow this logic: People do not start using contraception and thus become proud and lustful. They are proud and lustful ergo start using contraception.

Simple!

Hence this "close associations between contraception and abortion." is on a false premise. People are selfish and proud and thus chose abortion. Its not contraception that leads to abortion.

Plus, the Church's Commission on Birth Control approved contraception (see their Majority Report at www.catholicsforcontraception.org).... surely they would have seen this supposed link to abortion when they studied this issue... and they did not.

Thanks for your time.

Um...I can't even follow the grammar. My suggestion, anon, is you go to a workshop on the subject (if you're Catholic, which by your refer I must guess you kinda are, check with your local diocese) and get the answers to your questions. That contraception is a bogeyman for absolutely all evil in the world is a bit of a straw man argument. Even when you don't agree, it's a good idea to have the facts of your opponent's stance before typing.

Sorry for perpetuating a zombie thread, BC :)

"the Church's Commission on Birth Control approved contraception"

What do you mean approved? Approved the same way the Vicar of Christ does? The Vatican II document Humane Vitae is crystal clear on the matter, and that came from one of the Church's most liberal popes!

If there is no connection between the two, then how can you explain that Planned Parenthood is the largest provider of contraception AND abortion in our country?

There are more health departments and private physicians in the US that Planned Parenthoods. And most of them provide contraception.

What the poster seems to be saying is that contraception doesn't lead to abortion. Having sex without it MAY lead to it.

Not only is direct contraception and sterilization intrinsically evil, the pill causes chemical abortion(yes, it is proven). Anyone who is telling you otherwise is selling contraception- doctors get payment from contraception manufacturers for every patient they hook on the drug. I suppose the topic deserves a whole post. I'll put together something on this and I'll post the link. There's two points here, 1) The Catholic Church has taught for 2,000 years that any direct contraception or sterilization is always evil. 2) It is against human nature to contracept(meaning it is sinful even to non-Christians).
