Green Bay diocese removes priest after "credible alligations" of minor abuse

GREEN BAY - The Catholic Diocese of Green Bay took action to remove a Fox Valley priest from active duty following what officials call a "credible allegation of abuse of a minor."

The Diocese of Green Bay removed Father Paul Radetski from St. John's, St. Mary's and St. Patrick's parishes in Menasha and placed him on administrative leave. According to a news release from the diocese, the alleged abuse occurred many years ago in another part of the diocese.

The release also says Radetski denies the allegation against him.

"It is a sad day for the church when a credible accusation of abuse is brought forward against a priest or an employee in our diocese," said Bishop David Ricken in a prepared statement. "As a diocese, we commit ourselves to reaching out to the victim as well as the community."

The diocese indicates "civil authorities have been notified of the alleged abuse." Although Sunday it was unclear which law enforcement agencies had been made aware of the complaint.

A temporary church administrator is expected to be appointed to the three parishes.

I'm from Menasha, though I left for college at Marquette before the three parishes combined after the departure of the Order that had served St. Mary's Parish in Menasha, one of the three combiined.

I have to say that this sounds like absolute BS and I hope you and the other Catholic blogs will look into this. If I were still in Wisconsin and blogged regularly I would.

Fr. Paul is a very conservative, mostly reserved, quiet guy. I think what is happening here is that the same people who have milked dioceses across the nation are targeting Fr. Paul and the GB diocese there as well.

I particularly think that this is part of a nationwide effort to smear authentically Catholic priests with the homosexual abuse scandals. I've heard of this happening before: speak out against the Left, and you're smeared.

Also, notice the presumption of guilt via the statement of the Bishop. These people are playing right into the hands of the smearers and the financial leeches trying to drain the Catholic Church. It wasn't enough that the Left infiltrated the seminaries with homosexual activists, they now want to reap the financial benefits of their destruction decades ago.

Note that I am just posting a news story from Fox11 that is of interest to readers. I didn't post any commentary positive or negative, just the article itself.

Thank you for the feedback on Fr. Radetski. You may be aware that La Crosse was recently rocked with a scandal of a Fr. Umberger who apparently admitted guilt to possession of child porn. He was a conservative priest and thought of highly.

I think bishops are scared of groups like SNAP so they never publicly defend an accused priest.

We will certainly be following this closely, and if it is indeed a smear campaign, I'll be the first to post on it. I have no other details here yet to place judgement so we will have to wait and see.

A very 'conservative' and quite popular Milwaukee-area priest was suspended a divinis by Abp Weakland just before W's resignation.

And for GOOD reason, although it was never published.

It is worth remembering that Satan works hardest on the best of men, and is sometimes successful.

To say i am numb and in shock by this is putting it mildly. Father Paul would not hurt a fly. It will be almost 3 weeks since it was announced that the GB Diocese placed Father Paul on Administrative Leave and nothing has been said. I truly would like to know what a "credible" allegation is supposed to be. If it is something of significance don't you think the civil authorities would have announced something by now....

It's a great question mbk as to what a "credible" allegation is. Dioceses don't take chances with these anymore and err on the side of caution so it's hard to say what exactly we are dealing with here.
