Guadalupe Shrine events planned in December

The Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, 5250 Justin Road, plans a number of events in December, including on Dec. 8, when Cardinal Raymond Burke will meet pilgrims in the Pilgrim Center.

Events on the schedule include:

Dec. 4: Visit with St. Nicholas - At 8:30 a.m., children and their parents are invited to the Pilgrim Center for cookies and cocoa. The holy bishop will arrive about 9 a.m. to instruct the children in his story and the true story of Christmas. There will be a coloring room for the young artists and photo opportunities. The festivities will end in time for 11 a.m. Mass.

Dec. 8: Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception - Bishop William Patrick Callahan will celebrate the 11 a.m. Mass in the Shrine Church. At 4 p.m., Cardinal Raymond Burke will meet pilgrims in the Pilgrim Center, with opportunities for photographs. At 5:30 p.m., the Shrine will host a celebratory dinner. (Reservations required.) Proceeds from the dinner will support future shrine projects.

Dec. 9: Feast of Saint Juan Diego - Burke will be the main celebrant of the 11 a.m. Mass, which will include the induction of children into the St. Juan Diego Guild. At 3 p.m., the cardinal will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving at St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral.

Dec. 11: Solemnity of Our Lady of Guadalupe - As Dec. 12 falls on the third Sunday of Advent, the Solemnity of Our Lady of Guadalupe is transferred to Dec. 11. Burke will celebrate the 11 a.m. Mass with the Knights of the Altar Induction.

Dec. 12: Spanish traditions -Following age-old custom, the Hispanic community will celebrate Mañanitas at 7 a.m. in the Shrine Church, with refreshments, bi-lingual instruction on the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe and a Spanish Mass for the third Sunday of Advent at 11 a.m.
