Cardinal Burke hires new Press Secretary
I just received notice from Elizabeth Westhoff, Director of Communications for the Archdiocese of Saint Louis, that she has accepted a new position as Press Secretary for His Eminence, Raymond Cardinal Burke, and also Director of Communications for the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
This sounds like an excellent development.

I met Dr. Peter Kwasniewski briefly before Mass. A friend told me he now resides in the Wausau area and plans to do writing and speaking events full time. Previously Dr. K was a professor at Wyoming Catholic College.

Wednesday, December 12, 2018-Solemnity of Our Lady of Guadalupe: Beginning at 7:00 am with Las Mananitas (Songs to wake up Mary) and bilingual catechesis. At 8:30 am there will be a Mass in Spanish followed by sweet breads and hot chocolate in the Crypt. At 11:00 am Mass will be celebrated in English with Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke.
Saturday, December 15, 2018-A Pontifical Mass will be celebrated by Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke beginning at 11:00 am. The pontifical Mass is celebrated in Latin, the ancient language of the church. Cardinal Burke will be assisted by the priests and choir from Institute of Christ the King in Wausau.
Sunday, December 16-Bambinelli Sunday: Continuing the tradition at St. Peter’s Square, on Gaudete Sunday, families bring their Baby Jesus figures from their nativity sets to be blessed by the Pope. The Friars invite everyone to bring their Baby Jesus figures to Mass on this third Sunday of Advent to be blessed.
Guadalupe Shrine hosts summer organ recitals
David Lim is a graduate of the University of Iowa where he earned a Master of Arts degree in organ performance studying under Gregory Hand. He served as teaching assistant in the Organ Department, teaching organ and keyboard harmony, and also worked as a research assistant in the Department of Musicology under film musicologist Nathan Platte. Lim complete undergraduate work at Gustavus Adolphus College where he majored in music and biology. His primary organ teachers include Gregory Hand, Chad Winterfeldt, Chad Fothergill, and Jon Naatjes. Lim is presently the Director of Worship and Music at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Bayport, Minnesota. He formerly served at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church (Mankato, MN) and as organ scholar at First Lutheran Church (St. Peter, MN), amongst other parishes. In 2014, Lim won the Immanuel Lutheran Church Organ Scholar Award (Evanston, IL). In 2017, he was awarded an E. Power Biggs Fellowship from the Organ Historical Society and was inducted to the University of Iowa’s chapter of Pi Kappa Lambda, the national music honor society.
The other two recitals for 2018 are July 22: Thomas Fielding, Director of Liturgy and Music at Saint Augustine Cathedral in Kalamazoo, Michigan; and August 12: Kevin J. Vaughn, Director of Music and Organist at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in South Bend, Indiana.
All recitals are on Sundays at 3:00. Admission is free, a freewill offering will be accepted.

continue at Relevant RadioA small group of Relevant Radio® listeners and supporters gathered at the Harvard Club in New York City on Thursday, February 8, for an intimate gathering with His Eminence Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke. John Harper, host of Morning Air®, served as Emcee for the evening.
Cardinal Burke is the Patron of the Order of Malta, serves on the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura, and is founder and President of the Board of Directors for the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He spoke to the group about his love and vision for founding the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe; his talk was recorded by John Harper and Matt Beardsley and later shared on Morning Air.
“Saint John Paul II published his apostolic exhortation, The Church in America, and he talked about the importance of Our Lady of Guadalupe and her message for all of America, and especially her message in defense of and in promotion of human life, which in our lifetime I saw come under terrible attack in our nation. And so … we were still in the planning phases to develop this shrine, this place of pilgrimage and we decided that it would be a shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe,” said Cardinal Burke.

The story behind the St. Gianna Beretta Molla painting at the Guadalupe Shrine
continue at Catholic LifeGod always has a plan, and although we may not know it or see it at the time, we can look back and understand that what felt like a tough circumstance was really God at work in our lives. Such was the case in the early 2000s. At that time, there were several young couples having difficulties with pregnancy and they were brought together through a new saint, Gianna Beretta Molla.
This all happened about the same time the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe was being built, and the story unfolds in the shrine’s painting of St. Gianna Beretta Molla, who is surrounded by children known as Gianna babies.
The artist, Neilson Carlin, was painting St. Gianna Beretta Molla when, midway through, it was suggested that she be surrounded by Gianna babies, or children whose births were attributed to her intercession. Above her is Our Lady, Patroness of the Unborn, who is surrounded by unborn children offering roses.
What people don’t often realize is that the children in the painting are real Gianna babies who live in or near La Crosse.
Also, the Guadalupe Shrine does have St. Gianna Molla's actual gloves available for veneration. I've heard some pilgrims will come and put them on and pray for assistance with conception/pregnancy.

It's hard to believe the Shrine has gone this long without expressing concisely what the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe is and why it exists like it does in this series of videos. They are really well done, I'd recommend watching them all.

Through the history of Christendom, peasants of impoverished means built glorious monuments to the Faith. I would hope the most prosperous country in human history would not forget to give God glory through our very best offering to Him, like the offering of Abel the Just.

New Troops of St George chapter opens in La Crosse
A Troop of St. George is forming in the La Crosse area. Monthly meetings are held at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The Troops of Saint George is a fraternal Catholic apostolate for fathers and sons looking for a life of adventure coupled with virtue.
