Wisconsin Catholic Conference: Catholics at the Capitol

Come to Catholics at the Capitol 2011: Living Faith in the Public Square, on Tuesday, April 5, in Madison. Hear the keynote by Archbishop Jerome Listecki. Choose among workshops on Catholic social teaching, immigration reform, pro-life initiatives, care of the poor, prison ministry and other key topics. Learn how you and your faith can make a difference. Arrange to meet with your legislators. See the registration form at www.wisconsincatholic.org for full details. You are encouraged to carpool with friends and fellow parishioners.
This was in my parish bulletin this weekend.

If you remember the WCC Faithful Citizenship document from last year, they effectively said that immigration reform and "pro-life initiatives" are on the same level.  According to the statement, all these issues are essential for a political candidate, and thereby a Catholic can in good conscience vote for candidates who support infanticide because they do agree with "Church teaching" on immigration legislation.  (Sorry Dems don't have it right either, ask Pope Benedict XVI)  Like Cardinal Burke said about the USCCB document of the same name, the bishops are essentially providing cover so abortion can continue to be legal and promoted by the government.  That's not to say Abp Listecki supports this kind of double talk, but clearly the bureaucracy in the WI Church does.

Maybe it really is time for a Catholic Tea Party.
