Superior former vicar general could face up to 5 years in prison

A former Superior Diocese priest was charged this week in St. Croix County Court with felony theft after allegations that he stole money from a Hudson, Wis., church account used to help needy families.

The Rev. Daniel J. Dahlberg, 68, of Superior is scheduled for an initial court appearance May 12. The charge has a maximum penalty of five years in prison.

Dahlberg served as rector at Cathedral of Christ the King in Superior from 1998 to 2009 and was vicar general of the diocese — the second-highest position next to the bishop — from 1998 until last year.
