OSHKOSH, Wis. — A 22-year-old is accused of causing a crash that killed an unborn child in Winnebago County.
Joshua Ozment, of Fremont, is charged with homicide by negligent use of a motor vehicle in a 2009 crash that killed Emmy Kiecker's unborn child.
The Northwestern reports Kiecker was five-and-a-half months pregnant.
According to a criminal complaint filed Monday, Ozment was speeding around a curve in the town of Wolf River, crossed the centerline and hit Kiecker's vehicle head on.
Winnebago County District Attorney Christian Gossett says it took so long to file charges because he was waiting on the crash reconstruction and toxicology tests. He says he was also researching statutes involving the death of an unborn child.
Ozment is expected in court Aug. 8.
