LaxTrib: Who is the real Saint Nick?

Listen closely, children, to a tale of gifts and kindness.

It's the story of Saint Nicholas of Myra, or more commonly known today as Santa Claus.

And it will be told to children and families Saturday at The Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Listeners will get to meet Saint Nicholas as they learn about his life, hear the story of Christmas and sip on some hot cocoa.

"We live in a consumeristic culture where the true meaning of Christmas is lost," said Eugene Diamond, director of communications and development at the shrine. "(Events like this) help to restore the true meaning of Christmas and show how it began."

It's the second year for the event, which officials at the shrine hope will become a tradition for area families.

The real story of Saint Nick seems to get more lost, Diamond said.

We were there.  A good crowd this year.  St. Nicholas definitely looks the part too.  Pictures?  I need to attach a camera to my forehead or something.
